newbie with an 88 cherokee

so ive been wheelin for a long time and have 2 suzuki samurais and i just picked up an 88 cherokee from a friend with a 2 inch rancho lift 3.73 lockers front and rear on 32s, tires rub so im gonna go to a 31 but i do like the power difference between the 4.0 and the 1.3 in my sammies. but anyways anybody have any recommendations of where to start on this jeep? any problems with them or any advice would be much appriciated

Mabey trim instead if new tires? What axles are you running? If its a dana 35, id be worried with the rear locker..and it is a jeep so yes, many problems! Im kidding of course.

yeah no need to downgrade your tires just do some trimming. and x2 about the d35 which it most likely has these are the weakest axles in jeeps.

dana 30s

NO dana 35s, they were swapped to a dana 30 when he did the lockers because he had a broken axel and just got the dana 30s and locked em up

Dana 30 would be the front axle..and cherokees come stock with them..Mabey take another look to see whats in the rear..

okay you were right, i just looked at the front, it is a dana 35 in the back, what should i replace that with?

kellan_musseau 11-26-2009 12:12 AM

Well if you want to replace it, it personally wouldnt run lockers on my dana 35..
you can replace it with a stock chrysler 8.25, look for a dana 44 from a 87-89 (i think) cherokee with the factory towing package, or a 8.8 from a ford explorer. Those are the most popular, and the 8.25 or xj 44 should pretty much bolt right up.
