Steering my well be factory junk cause its junk.
I see a 9" rear axle. What gears are in tge axles. Looks like a pretty sweet platform to build on.. Gut the steering out of it,set it up with good shocks, verify gears lockers, if it has gears already its a hell of a nice platform |

Well your correct that isn't a factory steering. Looks like a beefed up copy of the stock steering. It retains the horrible drag link angle and I'm assuming track bar is also at a horrible angle.
Looks like axles and gears thats a hell of a nice starting point. Even though if it was mine id start with a fresh slate for steering and track bar.. 1ton over the knuckle steering will help reduce draglink angles though to me this looks like its plenty tall enough id strongly consider starting with wj knuckles to get the drag link even higher. That steering would drive me nuts since I'm offroad more than on road. Might be doable for a street rig |

Pretty sure it's some kind of aftermarket steering since it doesn't have a factory steering stabilizer mount.

I can adjust that once I upgrade the rest. Steering is great right now when not under stress. When im trying to turn the wheels against resistance, it's like trying to steer without power steering. Was thinking hydro assist but I know nothing about that. |

That’s Currie Correctlync steering. Far from junk. Currie has a precedure to grease the joints. If grease is forced it can damage the joint. Just letting you know. Very nice XJ!

If cover is a 30 cover I think that's enough to confirm its a 30.

Im just running my 30 with a grizzly locker and stock shafts. The bigger stock ones and haven't broke it yet. I did break the small ujoint shaft the first time out with the grizzly.
have a few hundred miles of offroad on tge biggercshafts now with no breakage.. starting to think the 30 can take it. I do quute abit if slow technical rock crawling stuff. Tree roots, creek crossing always seem to have tree roots on tge bank. also been driving rutted choppy rough trails pretty fast since I went 3 link in the front I think if the stock shafts do break some chromoly shafts would probably do the trick be less expensive and way easier than a 44 swap. But if you have tge money a 30spline 44 with a grizzly or detroit would be unstoppable with room for tires to grow a fair amount. You also have high steer options not readily available for the 30. |
As good a place as any
Well I decided to be dumb dumb and drive through a puddle. Hydrolocked the motor. Blew water out of the pistons, attempted to start again, god awful rattle. Happened about a month ago. Friend has his own auto shop so was luckily able to drop the pan to see the damage. Woo boy. #6 piston connection rod bent into an S-shape. Took a gamble. Replaced all the rod bearings, the bent rod, the piston, honed the cylinder, machined the head, and rear main seal (since I was in that far). Replaced water pump with a flowkooler, new high-flow thermostat housing, ZJ HD fan clutch, and a high flow thermostat. Happy to say the Jeep purrs like a kitten. Only driven about 50 miles so far but it's running great! Went ahead and got rid of the previous intake and got a Thor Cowl Intake.
Since last posting, obviously added the lightbar, upgraded my KCs to LEDs, added a winch, amber light bar, license plate relocation with backup camera, subwoofer, new speakers, amp, stereo, and a few more odds and ends. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...20cb0e9aff.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...27df3628a7.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...0fcce7bba7.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...d2a337dc02.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...33666d6113.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...1d9b75cb4f.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...6a78811740.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...710921d846.jpg |
