We live in Englewood, it is just south of Denver. We live just 30 minutes from the mountains, but are about an hours drive from the nearest trails. My wife is not to keen on four wheeling, but did say she is going to go on a trail run with me this summer. I am planning on going down to Durango stay at a B&B and do some of the trails in the so west part of the state. I want to do the kind of trails that are scenic but tame, Maybe she will fall in love with them. But she is very squeamish, I have to get her behind the wheel!!

By the way I would love a Comanche, They are becoming very rare.

shes from ft morgan. were planning another visit next year, and were going to take the Cherokee so we can hit some trails. im done with hard trails and rock crawling, I don't want to destroy stuff, just go places a stock jeep cant. we just want to be able to drive a couple hours into the mountains or forest, camp for a week or so, and go home. the Comanche is just going to be an around town trailer hauler, the previous owner beat the **** out of it in the woods.

Yeah I hear you there. Even though I am building mine to do hard trails. I am not to keen on destroying it. I would like to do some exploration type trails to see some of the most incredible vistas our state has available. But it seems that trails just get rougher over time. I want to build a nice little camping trailer out of a 4-dr that we retired a year ago but I have to many projects ahead of it. I hope that my wife does enjoy herself this summer 'cause I would love it if she wanted to go up to the hills as much as I want to.

exactly. I got lucky, she seems to like hiking, camping, and jeeps as much as I do. the only trails close to us consist of mud, occasionally an abandoned house, and more mud. but she enjoys it and is okay with spending money on the jeeps and other projects, so I have no reason to complain. im planning on building a tear drop trailer on 33s when time/money allows. I saw a black bear last time we went camping, which makes me want to get out of tent camping. its hard to sleep knowing your basically the bear equivalent of a taco.. not to mention there were a couple bodies found where I hike either last year or the year before, so theres the human factor there too. either way, id feel a little safer with some wood, metal, and a dead bolt between my family and anything, 2 or 4 legged, that creeps around the mountains at night.

The one thing I am lucky about is as long as I stay under control with my spending she is pretty cool with me building my XJ the way I want to. I really want to do gears/front locker and install my 8.8 but that will need to wait till next winter.
I hate tent camping. I freeze every time we do that. I am not to worried about safety just the cold hard ground. That is why I want to build my trailer. Once I get rolling with my mowing season I think I will pull the project into the garage, and get working on it. I have posted a drawing of my camper concept. I like the idea of my camper looking just like my rig.
I considered a tear drop camper but the ones I have looked at where around $5,000 used. So I got the idea of building my own instead.

the next thing on my gfs list is gears. well probably end up with 4:56s, but I want to do some more research first. I figure I can probably build a decent tear drop for right at a grand. I guess well find out when work starts rolling in again..

Even if it cost more than that you will be building something the way you want it.
The main reason I want 4.56 gears is because it is a trail rig. I don't want to go any taller than 33's. So that gear ratio would be perfect.
