my 'beat the heat' build thread

from my new guy thread- https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f8/mid...an-ride-52394/

allll right, i just pulled into my driveway a 98 Cherokee sport. 240,xxx mi, 4x4 (are they all?) Auto, COLD A/C, non-abs, radiator replaced last month. 4bridgestones at @75%tread

drives straight. has squeaks here and there. The only things i've noticed not working so far is the drivers side fender turnsignal (drivers headlight turn sig works), lock function of the power doors (unlock works) and the rear hatch struts wont hold up the door.

1350 Omani Rial isnt a bargain, but thats the market here. i've scouted out over 20 of them and they have ranged from 850-2200 Rial
1omr=$2.6

i cleaned it out before calling it a night, wash/detail/pix this weekend.

decided getting out and getting dirtier was going to be more fun than cleaning and shooting pix in the driveway

Nice lookin' XJ, and some great pics. Thanks for posting them.
Did you get a chance to try that light fix I mentioned?

nismo300zr2 07-09-2010 06:07 PM

thanks!
no, i didnt even think once of it while i was driving around :p

JeepingDan 07-10-2010 08:15 AM

Those are good pics. Looks like you have alot of open land to play on over there.

nismo300zr2 07-10-2010 10:17 AM

thanks JDan. photography is just another one of those side hobbies i dont have enough time for!

If the term 'open country' were to have actually have come from a specific country, i wuold have to say indeed, it is HERE in Oman! Those pics are just of some rock/rubble piles and man made things, but there is plenty more off roading dirt, sands and wadi's (water)

88MJ.uggernaut 07-18-2010 02:33 PM

How hot is it over there around this time of year?

nismo300zr2 07-19-2010 02:16 PM

its about 45c in the day right now but still VERY humid. a few weeks ago it was low 50's.

im sure glad this AC is kickin strong in the XJ, and that the jeep is white. i wonder what else i can do to beat the heat.. the cops arent too fond of tint.

im thinking of getting a little solar powered air circulator that you fasten to your window when you park, so at least its a -little- cooler when i have to get back in it.

That might work. I tend to leave my windows down an inch or so, and it makes a huge difference. But we have armed security here at work, so I'm pretty sure no one will screw with it.

You may also want to look at a folding sun-shade for the front window, put it up when you park and it pretty much blocks all light through the front window.

that little solar fan is neat!

leo3000 07-19-2010 06:10 PM

:p yeah, since they are like 3$ and available everywhere, i assumed that was a given to all. The remaining heat in there (or when the sun moves) is when the little fan comes in handy. I'd have bought it off the shelf already if it was around here but i have to get one shipped. ugh. lazy..
