My 98 classic budget build
So I just bought a red 98 classic 4x4 with 125,000 miles for $3k. The PO had never used the 4x4 and had never taken it off road and there is not one scratch (that I,ve seen yet) on any of the skid plates . Aside from a few minor details such as a cracked windshield and needing new shocks on the rear hatch, this jeep is almost perfect and is 100% stock (other than the 30" A/T's). This is my first xj and my first car so I have a pretty small budget so this is gonna be a pretty slow build. Anyways, here she is.
So here are my plans:
3.5" RE super ride lift
31" tires
Black out fender flares
Black out bumpers
Black out rims
At least 2 KC's
LED light bar
Rear tire carrier
New head unit
2 12" subs
Rock sliders
And anything else I can afford along the way

Well this has been a pretty great week. I found an RE super flex 3.5" kit with full leaf packs and shocks for $200 I got RE quick discos brand new in the packaging for $40 and I found out that I'm getting 5 free cragar soft 15x8 wheels and 33x10.5 KM2s from my uncle as well as his old 4.56 gears (he's changing his to 4.88) oh and I got some sweet 80's Cherokee emblems for free so last weekend, I only got to finish the front end but here's a before and after!

So I replaced the valve cover gasket and hopefully fixed my oil leak! And I found some 10" kicker subs and an 1100 watt amp for $80 on Craigslist and they are LOUD! So now all I need are some bigger tires and I'll have a pretty decent setup

I got my 33s!!! So I put them on and they looked great and I only had to trim the bumper end caps and take off the flares to make it work for now. And since it was raining today I figure why not go muddin in a couple dirt lots?

So I was lookin through Craigslist and found a trailer hitch for $50 so I picked it up and threw a d ring on it so now I have a decent recovery point. Then me and my buddy got bored and flexed a little on some ramps I had haha I kinda stuffed the back tires... I need to get an extended shackle or something I think my leafs are sagging

Well I got my fenders all trimmed up yesterday so I went out to four peaks today and went wheelin for a while the jeep worked great! I couldn't be happier but my friend broke the upper ball joint on his yota so we zip tied and duct taped that back together and limped it off the mountain. Oh and then on the way home, some jack*** dropped a Christmas tree off their truck right into my jeep goin 80 down the freeway. It busted out my headlight and tore up the whole front end but I think the damage is all cosmetic.

Ok so since my last post I haven't really changed much but I did replace some worn out parts. First off, I got my fenders painted with a rubberized undercoating where I trimmed. So then I took the jeep in to get aligned and apparently my upper control arm bushings were shot and they said my track bar needed to be replaced as well. Desert rat offroad wanted to charge me $800 to do that so I just decided to do it myself. The UCA bushings were a PITA to get out but they definitely needed to be replaced and it felt like a completely different car after I got them in haha! So then I ordered a teraflex adjustable track bar and that thing is beefy! So I got that on and adjusted and now it should be good to go! Oh and when I got the stock track bar off, everything seemed fine so I kinda think desert rat was tryin to screw me out of another $200 haha but hopefully now I can get it aligned and wheel it!! Oh and I got a spectre cowl intake for Christmas the thing sounds absolutely bad *** and gives a noticeable increase in acceleration and mpg

Well I did some crawling for about the first time ever and my jeep really impressed me! I was following guys with big built rubicons and my little xj had no problem keepin up! And it does great goin fast offroad and I accidentally jumped it but luckily nothing broke haha
