My $400.00 xj
This is my 1991 lerado i bought for 400.00.Had many oil leaks but only 126,000 miles and dosen't smoke.Drivetrain is exellent for it's age.Changed valve cover gasket and the engine was clean as new on top from what i could see..So i didn't want to spend much on the jeep because of my tight budget and 4 kids to feed.So i decided to build the rear first.I found a leaf pack off of a 1998 s-10 ice cream truck..with some heavy duty leafs. My stock pack was worn out and the overload was snapped..On both sides. So i used my 2 stock top leavs and the bottom 4 off of the s-10.The springs on the xj are very thin when comparing them with the s-10 leafs. After the pack was installed i measured from the top of my axle to the top of the bumpstop and it's exactly 10 inches on both sides. So i figure it's a lift of 3.25 inches Please correct me here if i am wrong. And it amazngly rides very well.I would like to get 2.5 inches on the front and i would like some ideas to do a budget lift on the front..And would i need an alignment with around 2.5 in the front? The drivetrain has no vibrations after lifting the rear however that may change once i lift the front. Now i need longer shocks and center caps for my rims and get the front up a bit and lower the cross member an inch or two.Let me know what you think and some input on a cheap build for the front..
