My 1st Cherokee Project.

Picked up a 2000 Sport with a bad front clip for $1700. It has 45k! 1st owner had all the delivery paperwork and some receipts dating back to 1999. It spent most of its life in FL, which in Michigan is a huge deal. There is NO rust!

It had brand new Michelin tires and MB motorsports rims. I sold those for $550. Picked up some 245's at half tread and some stock rims for $200.

I need a few pieces to make it go back together but it's looking like a great project!

Picked up a Cherokee to part out, robbed a few pieces off of that one.

Planning on 1.75 coil spacers in the front, with a few added leafs in the back to give me 2''~ of lift. Should be a perfect place to start.

Looks like you got a steal on that jeep!

MoparNJeep 03-09-2013 01:53 PM

It looks lifted already. Avoid add aleaf. If it dosent have lift shackles already use shackles . Or shackle relocation either of those are way easier to install and will reduce any chance of vibration.

rossd14 03-09-2013 01:57 PM

It had 235's on it, but no lift. I have some extra leafs from a parts jeep I figured I'd throw two of those on each side and see what that gives me.

Yeah I bought the jeep as a part out. PO was told it had frame damage, but there was just a crunched up front clip. I need a hood, LF fender and header panel. The auto repair shop who told him that also told him they would throw away his catalytic convertors for him for free....So yeah I think I did pretty well.

You have leaf packs from another cherokee?

Take a gander at this link... Very helpful, and if you follow the links at the end, they update the post saying that his rear end sagged and they added some more leafs in.
Might save you some time by making sure you do it right the first time so it doesn't sag.

I did a bastard pack with Dakota leafs. Simply added the main dakota leaf with the eyes cut off into my spring pack. Went from 4 - 5 springs... Also went from sagging 2inches to over 3.25" of lift. However it settled to probably around 2.75".

FYI. I work at napa and those monroe part numbers for the shocks aren't in existence anymore. I would personally find a set of RED Jeep Rubicon shocks. They are excellent and work from 2 - 4" of lift on a cherokee. Just require pushing the collars out of them and bar pins into the front ones.

Good advise on shocks. Thats what im using for my 4" lift and they ride great. Only cost me $45 for all 4 shipped to my door of jk 300miles on em.

love the wheels

rossd14 03-09-2013 02:22 PM

That rocklizard build is exactly where I got the idea to do what I want. I'm hoping it turns out nice but if it doesn't it gives me more time to play with it.
I worked at Napa in my 2nd year of college too!

rossd14 03-09-2013 02:23 PM

Where'd you get those rubicon shocks? I'm assuming used if they're $45 shipped?

Got my tires and rims mounted and balanced. I put them on without any lift and they still fit. I was very surprised 245's still fit stock. With 1.75'' up it should look great. It will also look better when It's not full of dust or missing the front fenders.

Can't wait to start putting everything back together!

Shocks were found on ebay. They had 300 miles on em. Looked brand new and ride far better than stock shocks.
