My 1989 Cherokee Laredo "Tree Dozer"

I just got my XJ, and I'm broke and looking for work so my build might take a while or forever. But it has 100k on a 4.0L I6, and 308,xxx on the body. It came with a heavy front bumper that I run over little trees with. And a mismatched driver fender and front piece. O yeah I'm just a kid 18 so if I mean when I make a mistake if you could set me straight it would be awesome. The Jeep community is the best I've seen.

Hey man nice jeep. Apparently I'm in the same boat as you; 18 and trying to get a nice jeep going for some off roading. Good luck man, I'm subscribing this thread.

Hey you got to start somewhere... Jeep looks clean enough, just make sure you take care of whatever might come up as you are getting the money together to build it up like you want... Many people (not just "kids" either) tend to ignore the smaller stuff adn over time they pile up to take all the money you had saved up for some big mod... CF is a great resource to have help you in making decisions and building up your rig the right way the first time around!!!

Went and got new brake shoes today. Only to find out I need new wheel cylinders which I'll get tomorrow. So my Jeeps dead in the water at my buddies house for the night. The passenger one was so fried it was metal on metal. A fragment of the shoe was jammed in the system. The guy I got it from had to know how bad it was (Didn't tell me of course). If I didn't love my Jeep so much I'd say forget it. J.E.E.P. Just empty every part that sounds about right. Just enough essential parts not quite.

what siz tires u planin on shovin under it? and how big a lift? got a 89 lerado and im still tryin to figure out if i should go 4.5 long arm with 33's or a 3" with 33's

Rockstar_Tendencies 06-08-2010 12:50 AM

There just 225 all terrains on stock rims no lift right now need funds. But I'm prolly just goinga go with 3-4" of lift and some 32's or something take off the fender flares. My buddies a welder and can make me most the stuff.

Finally got my brakes done, and wow what a difference. After all new brake shoes, two new wheel cylinders, and a new brake shoe adjuster for the passenger side. About 40-50 bucks a lot better than 450 at les Schwab aka Dill-hole Central. They wanted to replace the master cylinder which is completely fine. Some pictures yes there is no shoe left, and we didn't have jack stands till half way through. The old wheel cylinders were rusted like a mo fo.

Hey man good luck with finding the mod money. Takes a long time! Just bout to turn 18. All i gotta say is keep some extra money incase something goes wrong you dont budget for. Good luck with the build man! I've enjoyed workin on mine and it appears your enjoying it to!

And the JEEP community is a good one to be in. Majority are the friendliest people you'll ever meet.

Rockstar_Tendencies 06-10-2010 02:31 PM

Yeah just gotta get around to it

Rockstar_Tendencies 06-10-2010 11:55 PM

6/10/10

Pulled my CD player and decided to run my own power, and ground wires bigger gauge :thumbup1:. Ran them through the dash. One to the accessory in the fuse box. Then ran the constant, and ground through the grommet next to the hood release cable. Works great just need some wire loom. Put my rear driver speaker wear its suppose to go. And found a bunch of burnt out light bulbs.

Rockstar_Tendencies 06-13-2010 11:44 AM

6/11/10

Put a new battery in the Jeep. Now it starts

6/12/10

Put Marvel Mystery Oil in, pulled the air box silencer, and wired a switch to the factory electric fan. When the switch is off the fan works like factory, or I can just turn in on whenever I want. Whither the Jeep is on or not.
