You will really like the disk brake upgrade. I have done it on both of my XJ's. it's well worth the effort. Plus it looks cool when you stand back and see the rotors shining through the wheels..... Keep digging man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bench bleeding the master cylinder. Some very nasty old fluid in here that I had to flush first.

My brake bleeding setup. Contains the mess, and the vinyl hose allows me to see when there are no more air bubbles.

Adding transmission fluid

I spent hours researching what wheels and tires to get. I knew I wanted all-terrain tires for better street-ability, as mud tires perform poorly on pavement, though they do look awesome. I really wasn’t sure what type of wheel to get.

I ended up buying this set of bronze Rocktrix RT105’s on a whim because they were much different than any 5x4.5 wheel I had seen. I could not find any pictures of these on an XJ, but decided to give it a shot. I am really pleased with them.

The tires I picked were these Firestone Destination X/T’s. They seemed to have decent reviews and I’m a sucker for white letter tires.

Wheel specs: Rocktrix RT105 17x9 w/ 4.5 inches of backspacing

Tire size: 275 70R17

Wheel test fit

First time on the ground in nearly two years!

Mine looked the same. I ended up disassembling the entire master cylinder and proportioning valve and cleaned it all out multiple times. While they were out, I blew air through the steel lines to get as much fluid out as possible.

It still took a quart of fluid before I had clean fluid at all four corners.

Well worth the effort. I feel much better about the condition of my brake system.

Definitely worth the effort when it comes to safety. I considered buying a new master cylinder when I saw how black the fluid was at the bottom. Luckily I blew the lines out already to flush out any sand that may have gotten in when I was blasting the underbody.

I had black fluid, foamy fluid, brown fluid and chunks of "stuff" in the master cylinder. I was going to buy new stuff but after taking it apart and seeing that all it needed was a good cleaning, I am good to go.

I'll flush/bleed it again when/if I do the rear disc conversion.

I have a pretty significant fuel leak coming from the hose at the fuel pump assembly. From what I’ve researched, this small hose looks to be a discontinued part. At least I couldn’t find it anywhere online. I pulled one from the junkyard this weekend and installed it; currently still leaking. I’m not sure if it might be the plastic line disconnects that are worn out or if the fuel hose I pulled is also junk.

This is mildly frustrating, as it’s the only thing holding me back from a test drive.

I made a new fuel line to replace the OEM one. Oddly enough, the line diameter is 5/16 inch at the line and 3/8 inch at the pump.

Still leaks with brand new disconnects. I’m now guessing I have a weird issue with the fuel pressure regulator.

Great job! I know this is a lot of work to rebuild the way you want. But I feel like you're going to pull it off. Thanks for sharing

Not something I planned on replacing, but I decided to swap out the entire fuel pump assembly to see if it would fix my leak. It did the trick. I’m guessing I had an issue with the check valve on the old one.

I did a quick test drive and topped off the transmission fluid. The transmission seems to be working as it should. I will definitely need a wheel alignment soon.

Installed my old CB radio for nostalgia sake!

Just finished this and it has given me hope as I work on our flintstone mobile that I bought off of Ebay Motors. Just replaced passenger side floor pans and rear passenger drivers side. While doing that I found a spot of rust on the rear driver's rocker panel that I cut out and now have to repair. However, my real question is this is there a name for the metal cover over the fuel filler hose? Mine is completely rusted through and barely hanging on.
