Liftining my Jeep
 

I read a post earlier today that said I could lift my 92 XJ by adding leafs from a s10 or chevy blazer does anyone have input on that or a cheap lift kit to give me around 3 inches to 5 inches? thanks for the help! I'm new here i may not be posting in the right area

OP, there's a wealth of information out there about this and every person's situation has a different answer.

I have bastard pack leafs made out of the XJ pack and the s10 pack with longer shackles and shackle relocators. It sits at about 6" of lift and rides pretty good. The s10 leafs are thick so they make for a high spring rate but I carry a lot of gear so they work well for me.

3" of lift can be achieved relatively cheaply but 5" is another story.

The real questions here are:
1) What size tires do you want to run?
2) How do you plan to use your jeep? DD, woods rig, what kind of wheelin, etc.

I live in the appalachian mountains ( North Carolina to be exact on that so mine would be more in the woods ) I don't have any lift right now but cut my finder flares off I am running 31x10.50 but would love to make it to 35's with some wheel spacers and i could trim the front of the finders still. what did yours cost you to find 6"?

Reaffirmed the OPs suspicion that this is the incorrect section, posted a quote that the majority here would agree with (not without reason), and basically said what you said here (although you were more tactful about it). Then get called a ***** (whatever was censored). So I just decided to play. Childish? Perhaps; but nothing is up my arse. Guess I just come off that way.

OP, you got the link that I posted in the other thread, lots of info there. Hope it helps, but be advised that cheap lifts are generally cheap for a reason and most JY lifts don't have the positive results that Mr. XJlimited has had. Also, a 3" lift can be done on a budget and yeilds surprisingly capable results. Once you get into the 6" range, even a "cheap" lift becomes increasingly costly.

To lift a jeep 6" and run 35s costs thousands. Probably about 5k. It's more than suspension. At that point it becomes suspension, steering, and drivetrain.

Stick to 31s for awhile until you're ready to really dump time, money and effort into a serious build.

Also, stay away from wheel spacers. Just buy wheels with the proper backspacing.

seriously like i found this site today haha I wasn't trying to be a peter head you just came across as a jerk and im the reason I want a cheap lift is because honestly i paid 600$ for my jeep i have a bumper and stinger bar that is home made and I aint really worried about what will tare up on the thing i'm getting ready to buy me something else and if something breaks ill just fix it heck i may not even lift it i am just looking for something cheap so that i can have some fun if it breaks then it breaks i have two parts jeeps setting here lol

You may be shocked, but I've heard that before. Eh, moving on. Since it's just a $600 trail beater and not your main transportation, then that opens the possibilities of a cheap lift working out. Not having to worry about a good ride or ghetto fab fixes are a plus. Check this thread, $1000 build (total cost including Jeep IIRC), thunderbird coils, s-10 bastard pack, sounds right up your alley.

Thanks man i'm glad were on the same page no hard feelings lol I mean do i want to drive it on the road yes! but do i drive it long distances no on to my next question which bastard pack would be better for me? the trails around here are deep and thick mud you said on the other thread that a chevy blazer would give you more of a lift. does that effect anything else that i will need to change? will the thunderbird coils work with this set up?

Yay! Friends! To be clear, I never said anything about Blazer leafs, that thread was before my time and I have no idea if Blazer packs vary from s-10 packs. There are threads on many different combos, s-10, Dakota, etc. Each will give a different ride, that's about all I know of bastard packs. I skipped the BS on mine and just got full packs.

Whatever you do make sure you get longer brake lines, wouldn't be fun to lose your brakes. Oh and 35s and stock gearing will suck. I live in the upstate of SC and it sucks with 31s pulling a trailer. Wouldn't go past 31s without new gears, and if I stay at 31s I'll go to 4.10s.

Thanks man I actually set down today and read your whole build and i am kind of in the same situation i'm in high school and where i'm from i drive 10 minutes to school on a 2 lane road so it's not like i'm driving far so thats why im looking for somethin cheap

you don't want it to wander all over the road if you drive a 2 lane road.... Make sure you at least do something with the steering.
