just stick the jack under the breaker bar
I got a fresh start with a new to me 2 door 94 cherokee after my 99 kicked the can and it was cheaper to just part the old one out and start anew. i was wrong.

taking the old suspension out i realized i might be over my head. the rust is so bad... i have no floors and this was my favorite part.
Attachment 353977 thats the old leaf spring rusted in half...I DROVE 40 MILES ON THAT! swapped both front and rear axles and pit the 3in rustys lift under her in a couple days it was a good time to go a bit higher so i threw pucks and shackles under there too some pics of that... Attachment 353978 Attachment 353979 done now ill put a pic up later. but the rust is really bad worst i have ever seen shy of being rusted in half. some quality time with the MIG will hopefully fix that. |
i need steel. is anyone a clevelander who knows where i can get a bit? i dont want to order online. shipping costs are too high

Ok bled brakes annd blaah blaah blah. Found some metal and started cutting up the floor Attachment 161509 |
Nice Jeep and thread title name lol

it is a trick that has worked many more times than i thought it would, also i had to do that to every bolt in the rear suspension. none broke!
i started welding 1/8in steel plate into the back of the jeep with my trusty stick welder because it had served me well in more heavy duty applications... DO NOT USE A STICK WELDER TO WELD FLOORS IN. on the lowest setting it wanted to eat thru the "frame". i did what i could to tack them in for now but im gonna need to dig out a MIG from somewhere |

got the MIG and more metal to weld in floors
also decided to reinforce rear bumper because it is an important recovery point and i ripped out all the welded nuts pulling my brother out of a ditch a little fab with 1/4 in steel plate is a bit overkill but t will not brake this time Attachment 353500 this is what I have made up. the blue part runs down the frame and bolts run thru to the other side where there is another bracket. red arrow is plate that has holes for the bumper bolts to go thru |

...ok so i had a kid(her name is claire) and broke my Cherokee in half("frame" crack and a big one)... unrelated events. so i needed one i felt would be safe to haul the kid around in. so i paid 3 grand for a super clean 98 clasic four door. came with three inch blocks and pucks... blah. |
Subbed the title got my attention. Know all too well about the kids killing the account. Good luck on your new build!
