Jersey Devil 2

This is my $300 resurrection project. After trading my built JKUR for a WK2 daily driver I found this XJ for $500 on Craigslist and talked him down to $300. Ran, drove and 4wd worked! Needed brakes, battery, and windshield. Had some rusted floor boards on the cargo area and on the rockers but the frame is rust free. Soon as I got it home the key stopped turning it on so I hooked up a push button start, put a cheap battery in it, did a basic tune up, and cleaned the IAC sensor and it ran great! Installed new hubs, new high pressure brake line in the rear and drilled and slotted rotors. Got a stinger tube bumper from a local shop called The Fab Shop in Berlin NJ and Engo 9k winch. I started getting all my lift parts together too. I'm not just buying a kit and throwing it in, I'm doin my own thing. Got Clayton 4.5 coils and ACOS spacers, Rustys R211 shocks for the rear(longer because I'm cutting out the floor board and runnin them into the interior), DB Metalworx steering box stiffener, DB Metalworx frame stiffeners, got an extra D30 and building it like a tank(synergy sleeves, ball joints, gussets, and cntrl arm skids, and artec truss, and Yukon shafts), Aussie locker with 4.10s, GM one ton steering, Ford 8.8 rear with disc brakes and LSD, got 35" Swampers, Skidrow engine, transfer case, and gas tank skids. Also did a Wagonneer header swap. Still need my Clayton 6.5 leafs, Liquid iron leaf sliders, Clayton 3 link, Rusty's R311R dual res shocks for the front, brake extensions, and SYE. Things are moving right along nicely.

Having trouble uploading pictures. For some reason it only uploaded this one out of all the pics I had selected

looking forward to the progress. On the no start part, did you check to see if it was your NSS?

Basslicks 08-02-2016 09:56 PM

Good progress so far man!

Thank you! When I bought it the guy gave me an extra NSS but the push button start was easier. When I do the axle swap in a few weeks I'll put that switch in. I gotta get a new fan clutch too, I overheat on the hiway but not in traffic. Go figure. I'll be getting that this week.

Few more pics of some of the progress so far. The split pictures have the original picture from the Craigslist ad.

Subbed! This is going to be a good one. Solid parts list. I may have asked before, but I forgot. Any particular reason for the leaf sliders over shackle relocation brackets? I seriously considered those, but ultimately ended up going with no lift SRBs

Thanks! Can't wait to get the axles in there, I'm so close! This is turning out to be a fun build! I've heard good things about the sliders and there's virtually no chance of binding when flexing with them because they're free to move where they need to be so I don't have to worry about any funky angles.

Well done! Love the waggy swap! This gonna be great!

Welcome fellow Jersian! Looking good so far on the progress. Keep us updated!

I would like to point out that your rotor is on the wrong side lol. The drilled/slotted parts should taper out when spinning forward, not in.

Thank you! They're on the right way. They were marked for driver and passenger side. They are from Canada so that could explain it lol damn Canadians hahahah

NICE job on the paint.

Got some details on how you did it? Like a step by step? Or maybe how you prepped it, tools used, paint used, how you sprayed it,....things like that?

I started by masking all the windows and emblems. Covered the windows with plastic bumper and tired too. I used Rustoleum flat black enamel rattle cans. 17 to be exact. I bought a case. I sanded down the entire thing real quick, there was no gloss left so I was basically just trying to get the mildew off. I started by doing a very light dusting coat so the rest of the coats had a nice coat to stick to. Then I started with the roof then to the passenger side and worked my way around back to front giving a good first coat, dusting it on till I could no longer see the factory silver. Then I gave it 3 more good coats.
