So yea I get the idea behind rotating the tires but here is my thoughts. Rotating 1 spare tire into a rotation with 4 tires is not even. By this I mean you run the 4 tires maybe 3,000 miles or more depending on when you rotate. You put that 1 spare on and swap out one of those 4 you been running and essentially you are running a tire that is larger in diameter due to no wear vs. the others. Now okay if you rotate like every few hundred miles *unrealistic* but you get my point as early as possible then yes maybe they will wear evenly.

Okay I may be over thinking it and trying to talk myself out of buying another lol but honeslty I have owned way more vehicles than I can count since I was old enough to drive and I never once used a spare tire. If I blew a tire I opted to just fix it or if it couldn't be fixed I would buy 4 used ones or all new. To get you off the trails in a quick pinch then yes I understand the spare. Outside of that it makes no sense unless you evenly rotate them.
I agree would be just as easy to carry a tire plug kit and some sort of on board air even if it’s a cheesy plug in air compressor

Spare tires get used? I'm not certain that's true, I'm pretty sure they are just for show. Heck, I don't even think your allowed to rotate them with you're other tires, that's just an old wives tale...... like blinker fluid.

There is actually a method of rotating out the spare that works if you buy 5 new matching. If you are going to rotate them often, every 3-4 k like you say, all you have to do is add the spare into the rotation by exchanging it with the right rear coming off each time.

The right rear always wears faster than any of the others, so exchanging this one for the spare each time as it comes off will make them all eventually wear out the same and never be any taller than any of the others throughout their service life.

Meaning instead of moving the right rear to the front, put the spare on the front and make the right rear coming off your spare. If you do this every time you rotate they will all wear out at the same rate.

Might as well use it up with the rest than to have it sit back there and get rotten as a brand new tire.

Thanks for all the input guys.....your all correct in one way or another and well I plan to buy a spare eventually, it will be mainly for looks lol but also getting me off trails in a pinch. Mounting it on back bumper tire carrier would be awesome. Though if I lived in a place like California where sun shines everyday then I would invest in a cover to protect tire from heat some but mostly ultraviolet rays from the sun.

Out here in PNW I would also be concerned with theft, and weather elements.

So it might go on roof, maybe rear or even in cargo area once I figured a way to secure that large of tire and wheel in back.

I just got home and couldn't resist taking comparison photo lol.

Just to even things out a bit I also dropped about $500 in parts for my wife's Excursion.

I know this is Jeep forum but I figured I would mention I spoiled her some too.

Hellwig rear sway bar, Hellwig front sway bar end links and then bilstien shocks all around all from Summit Racing

Should ride pretty damn good now. I live that Excursion great family truck!

Just have it ready to toss on the rack when you are going out in the boonies. Let me share that I throw two spares in when going out in the boonies. Twice I have needed both spares and a plug kit and compressor to get back out because I had 3 flats. Plugs can only fix a hole up to a certain size, anything bigger and you are screwed, it needs another tire on it.

Oh I will get a spare....you know what's funny I got home while loading up wheels and tires I realized where is my 5th wheel? Turns out I had extra cash in bank because they never sent me that one. I need to find out why but now I'm wondering if they didn't have it so just sent me 4 or they thought I made a mistake and accidentally ordered 5 and only need 4 so they adjusted the shipment and payment. Its okay at least I had 4 tires needing 4 wheels and I had that lol

Lol, it was going to mess up their inventory, They would have had to find three more people who wanted 5. lol

On another note I ordered my track bar bushing and new bolt kit from Clayton off road. Look how generous they are. I still have not received my CF sticker but I get hooked up with Clayton. Guess I know where my business is going

Lol, as a business owner I got spoiled on free stuff. Every vendor in the world is ready to give you free stuff just to consider selling their product. That reminds me... I still have a brand new in the box light up double sided Bridgestone sign made to hang off a pole or wall if anyone wants to buy it cheap. lol
