And now that I took at a look at where Olympic 4x4 is on the web I recognized the shop and know exactly where it is. Like you said in my back yard so to speak!

I hadn't originally considered doing a build post here on the project, but as I get to know this forum it seems like a cool thing to do. I'll talk to my kidlette about it and see if she wants to share our little project with the rest of the world.

It's going to be a quick build, she leaves town in a few weeks so we've got to have her new (old) rig looking good and road ready by then. Basically she has a gnarly lifted 96 XJ with some serious issues, so we picked up a sweet unmolested 95 for cheap and now we're transferring all the gnarly bits over to that. I'm doing the heavy lifting (literally) and she's doing all the customizing (she's on her 5th can of truck bed liner). When we're done, she'll be off in "Frankenjeep II" and I'll take what's left of the 96 and put it out to pasture at Olympic.

Hey I totally understand no reason to go about showing it off to the world. However; if she is up for it maybe just post a quick photo when finished. I have to say that is awesome what your doing. Though my son is not old enough to drive yet...I consider this to be a build that him and I will work on together and if it don't gain enough interest for him that is fine but hopefully it will and then one day he may one to build one for himself. Nevertheless it is quality one on one time spent with them and they can take those experiences and pass it along. I can totally see my daughters wanting to do the same, they are younger but I tell you what my 3 year old she would do anything to be with her Daddy and if it meant working on the cars or going off-road she will be there It is just great to see others doing the same because the world we live in today you don't see that parent/child interaction like you used to anymore. How many times you go out to dinner and see nothing but parents and kids sitting around the table with the phones out not even talking to one another and face glued into the screen.

Shocks??? So with my 4.5" RE lift going in the Jeep what is the recommened Bilstins shocks I could run? I know the 5100 series seems to work but do I need to measure my ride height after I lift it to get accurate calculation or what has worked for you guys on this?

Collapsed Length (IN): 17.01
  • Extended Length (IN): 28
  • Travel Length (IN): 10.99
The ones I was looking at on seriousoffroad have measurements posted above which are just that. Can I order them some place that say they will fit 4.5" up to say 5.5 lift? Seriousoffroad does not state on thier website so if someone can help that would be great.

Also, has anyone heard of running say F150 shocks instead of buying brand new if I can source some from a junkyard in great shape what model vehicles could I get them from and year? Specifically ones that will work on this level of lift?

Thanks!

For your interior, it is no problem to clean up after the weather dries out...in say, MAY! lol. Go to Dollar Tree and pick up a couple of spray bottles of AWESOME. (it's a cleaner) pull your interior out, spray each seat, etc, 1 at a time with Awesome, wait a couple minutes and spray off with a pressure washer starting at the top and working your way down. When you get to the base, tip it forward and put a block under the rear of the seat tracks, or lean the top on a trashcan, whatever is handy. then start at the back of the base and work your way to the front. Go slow. I use a little electric pressure washer for jobs like this, it puts out enough pressure to do the job, but doesn't frag things up. After washing, I use a shop vac to suck all the water I can out of them. If you don't have a shop vac it takes 3 days to dry out. (like these, my shop vac had puked it's guts out.) The next set of seats I did I have a new shop vac and it took a full day for them to dry out. (washed them in the afternoon on Thursday, they were nice and dry Saturday morning.) Same thing works for carpet, you just need something to hand it up on.

Dirty Seat out of a 99 Cougar.
After awesome and pressure washer. It is soaking wet, but looks alot better!
They took about 3 days to dry completely in Washington Summer weather.

Thanks for that advice! I will defiantly give that a try once I get home. I won't have the Summer to dry them seats out since i get back in Decemeber but I do have a heavy duty shop vac that works well so I'm golden. Plus I have access to another one that I can bring home from work if needed. Either way I will get them seats cleaned up.

I don't have a pressure washer but it is on my buy list of things to get. Always wanted one and they are not too expensive to purchase. Plus I can get some good use out of it so I will grab one of those too.

I should have mentioned, you can take them to the car wash as well. I don't but it would work.

Yep... I have been following this. If you can afford it, most good car washes have hot water shampooers that will kick *** on this problem Carpet and all. Just go cash in and get a bunch of quarters .lol

Thanks the car wash might be a option! Buddy I work with said he has a pressure washer gas operated one that he selling so when I get back from deployment I may just buy his. I will get plenty of use of it so for the price he is asking I think I may have one if not car wash it is.

We borrowed our Daughter's carpet shampooer, It has all the hose attachments to do auto interior, Worked great! I have to share that if those older seats are starting to get dry from exposure, a pressure washer might blow them to pieces.

Bugout4x4, I will take that into consideration and see what comes of it. Hopefully the seats are not like that and I could just use a shampooer, easy day!

By the way everyone I got extended on the Deployment so not sure when I will be home but doesn't appear to be much longer than we already anticipated. Could be after the Holidays which sucks big time but Jeep will still be there when I get home. Still ordering parts as I do my research so when I get home I will be 90% ready when the time is right to tear into it.
