Installing a new Headliner
While this is probably not as exciting a build as others, her we are. I had not seen a heaadliner build thread, read on them butno pics. Hopefully this will help someone. This is also for a 96-01 XJ. This has the rear Speakers molded into the ceiling.
This my original Headliner, Saggy dirty and cigarette burn above the Driver's seat-oops. Starting in the front I removed the Visors, interior light, and handle grips (x3). I removed the rest of the trim all the way back. I then removed the rear Seatbelts from the frame in the ceiling. Removed my speakers

After removing everything the Headliner really comes out pretty easy. Right out the Back. This is what you are left with. Naked XJ!!

I used a fairly stiff brush on what was left of the Sponge from the old Headliner. It came off pretty easy. What didn't come off easy did with a putty knife and the Shop Vac.

Applied the Cement (there's spray on as well. Next time I do this I'm going to try that) and rolled the Headliner as I went front to back. Applying even pressure as I went. If you push too hard while applying the adhesive will definitly push through. Found this out after I was finished and my 4yr old put her big toe on it. Now it's forevertoe...
I used Clothes pins to help the edges to adhere. They seem to want to curl a little but. This causes indentations but will eventually puff back out.

Let it dry for about 4hrs. It should be cured pretty well by then. Cut out the accessory holes as you see fit with a very sharp knife or razor. Try not to over cut the smaller holes or else you have obvious holes after reinstalling. Slide the Headliner in just as you took it out. I painted the Speaker covers as well and my daughter helped with the photographs!!

Be sure of the placement of the Headliner s it can seat a little too far forward causing all of you holes to be off by 1/2 inch. Attach the upper trim, and the rest of your Visors and such. You should be good to go!!

Thanks, Yeah With the roll on cement you can wait for it to get tacky and then reapply that way the bond is stronger and you have less of a chance of it bleeding out through the fabric. The cement is actually the consistancy of milk otherwise.
