how far can i push my axles?

My first post, picking up a 1991 4.0 cherokee for 80% wheeling, 20% hopping around town. Anyway my question is can I off-road hard on 33s with stock axles??? My concern is driveline dos and donts. Project Cheap Cherokee I bought for $1000 165k miles, solid enough to bump off a few trees and drive it home. I'm thinking rustys off-road 4.5" lift(not long arm upgraded) driveline spacers? Cut fenders? Extended steel braided brake lines? T case drop spacers? Help

depends really if you have a d35 or 8.25 in the rear. the front d30 will handle 33's all day long.

both my tj's still have the d35 while running 33's, been wheeling/dd for more than 10 years and we haven't had a problem yet with axle shafts. we usually run level 3-3+ trails (out of 5).

the 8.25 with 27 spline shafts are only marginally stronger then the d35.

i think as long as you don't bounce around on the rocks, you should be fine with a little finesse.

Easy on the skinny pedal. I'm on 35s locked dana 30 and open 27 spline 8.25.

Alright THANKS, how can I tell the difference in 8.25 and d35?

the 8.25 has a flat bottom on the diff where the cover bolts up to.
the d35 does not.

also, if you have abs, you have the d35. if no abs, you most likely have the 8.25.
