Hand me down 99 XJ build
I have started a thread due to the fact the old XJ is finally getting some love. My dad bought it new and over the years my sister has used it as well as dads girlfriend. It had logged 230,000 on it when it was retired and I got my hands on it. It now has 270,000 on it and is still rolling the original drive train.
I did basic maintenance on it as dad had always kept up on it but my sister had let things go a bit during her stint as owner. I drove it this way for a few winters. This past summer I finally started planning my build. I used the Quadratech project XJ as my guide as I really like the look of that build.
After 2 weekends of wrenching I have the kit and the tires installed. I love the way it rides and it looks awesome. I have more to do but funds are limited until next winter.
Build
RE 3.5 super ride
16x8 Moab wheels
265/75/16 BFG KO2
Bilstein 5100's

Did my heater core and evaporator this past weekend. Everything went as expected until I decided to upgrade to LED lights in the dash. I put the lights in and the fuse popped. I replaced the fuse and it popped again. By this time it was 1 AM and I had been at the heater core since around 5 PM. I pulled everything apart and checked for any possible wiring issues. I then put it back together and went from a 5 to a 10 amp fuse.
As soon as I turned on the lights I got smoke and that lovely electrical fire smell. I ended up putting the stock bulbs back in and everything worked except for the bulbs behind the volt and fuel gauge. I have ordered a used cluster off eBay as I cant figure out why I have no juice to those 2 lights as the board on the dash looks fine. I checked the local yards but they do not have any XJ's right now.
After close inspection I found one of the LED lights was assembled with the 2 prongs twisted in the socket. This caused my short and cost me $60 for a used cluster. Be careful buying eBay LED's as I never would have thought to pull them apart to check the socket integrity.
