The Grey
Some of you may or may not remember my former rig, a blue XJ from Germany dubbed "BlueGerbil", quite built, not too extreme, for travelling in Europe. It has been totalled on my way to the largest offroad expo in Europe where it should has been displayed in the booth of Global Offroad, a reseller of LED lighting systems Iīm working with. That was in Summer 2010.
A "new" XJ was bought, a silver 2000 Limited that should serve as a trail rig. Another XJ was bought as well, a blue 19999 Limited - my new daily driver. Summer 2011 saw it in this state: https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.n...94159584_n.jpg So off to the Alps I went - and BOOM went the engine with a mere 110k miles on it. I spent the rest of the trip riding shotgun in a buddys TJ. Due to personal stuff (divorce, new love, new job etc.) I didnīt do anything to the rig for the next months. Then, 2011 was ending, a friend called me - he had a 4.0 engine from a 2000 TJ with only about 35k miles on it - the owner just converted his TJ to a LS1 engine, so I snagged the 4.0 for cheap. Since I was working in the 4x4 industry now (no more IT stuff for me!) things went a bit smoother with the rig. In 2012 I made it to the above mentioned offroad fair without any problems. It was now has some LED lights and a carbon fiber roof top tent as well as some new bumpers. And it got its new name - "The Grey" - like the Liam Neeson movie, since the starting monologue of this film sums up my private situation exactly. https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.n...44313197_n.jpg Lights are similar to beer - you donīt think you have enough of them.
