Green lantern is in full effect....... Kinda

Ok. Got my second ever jeep. First xj about 2 weeks ago. This baby needed and still needs alot of TLC. 95 jeep xj sport 4.0l crysco 8.25 inthe rear and a 30 in the front. I think. So far. Huge ammount of rust on this thing. Floor pans are toast but cAn wait as I have bigger fish to fry. First things first. 214k miles and the dif. Oil has never been changed. Got into that and to my suprize any and all noise was not the pinion and ring gear as they look brand spanking new. It's the other axle gears that are worn but still. Not so bad. Changed the oil and now no whine no nothing. Changed shocks , and entire new ignition system are in it so far. I have a energy bushings kit that needs to go in. An exhaust manifold on the way Wednesday and front ujoints which I will get to tomorrow. Needs a new a/c compressor as I will have my 9 month old in the jeep with me so gotta keep the kido cool. Tires in a couple of weeks Im still up in the air on what to get. This thing won't have a lift in it for a while so I don't really know what tires to get. I will be doing mild to moderate mudding trail blazing and dirt road travel but this will be an everyday driver so the swampers are out of the picture at the moment. If anyone else can think of other things to check. Let me know. I'm still kinda new at this building up stuff. Till later. Oh. And more pics will be up soon

Pm me your sudgestions on other components I need to check change or scrap. Thanks

U joints are fun......... Not. Front right one was broke so I went to get it out and after fighting cursing and other things. It finally gave up. But. Hey did you know auto zone doesn't carry the u joint. Nope. The Scottish parts store did though. ( oreighlys). Got it in kinda. It looks straight but the caps army quite in far enough. Kinda at a loss at what to do. Any tips??

Pit1981 03-26-2010 04:58 AM

Alright. Got the ujoint in now. Straight and true. No noise no vib. Nothing. Now only minimal stuff left. Exhaust manifold. Hope fully I'll get to that some time this week end. The bushings will have to wait. They need changing but they will have to wait till I can get time fro
das baby. And I need a new floor pan. It's rusted out so bad I can push the carpet up on both sides. Then tires. And that will be it. Oh also an a/c compressor. Then that's it. I think

Exhaust manifolds are fun too. Even more so when the old one has been mig welded back together at the exhaust joint. Ugh. Stupid prev owner. Anyway. Once I got the manifolds off checked the valves and much to my suprize they look great. Almost brand new. Really lucked out on the motor. Anyway. Getting the manifold back in tomorrow and hopefully back together lol. Will repost with results. Happy trails y'all

Pit1981 04-03-2010 12:24 PM

I going to find the last owner of this jeep and kill them. The old manifold was welded on inside the car. Not out on the ground or on a table but still attached to the engine. Hell I would be so mad if they had done a good job but it looks like ****. Big ugly bulky welds. Weld spatter. And a huge honkin hole that they didn't even attempt to fill. Ugh. Stupid none jeep people. I will post pics of this soon. Then you too can laugh

Pit1981 04-03-2010 07:46 PM

Well the exhaust and intake manifold went in way easier than I thought it would. Other than a few vac lines the power stearing and fuel rail. That's it. Not too bad. Just a little time consuming. That's all

post up some pics bro,, sounds like you are working alot on your jeep.

Pit1981 04-05-2010 12:28 AM

I am in a way. Lots of little stuff. I know I know exhaust manifold isn't a little job but like the shocks and some bushings and a ujoint. It's just all compiling up and not really that much to show for it. I'm building this jeep not only ad an everyday driver but for trail speed as well Dirt. Some mud. But I gotta keep it comfy for the wife and kido. So that means a/c. Doors (in some cases). Safety stuff. This baby will more like a rally car than a mud bogging rock climbing jeep. And that's what I want. The suspention will be soft yet responsive. And I'm running a wierd gearing in the axles. The front has a locker for turning power but the back doesn't so I can slide the rear around if I have to. Sounds wierd but it works. I will post tomorrow when I get done putting the engine back together.

Pit1981 04-05-2010 03:17 PM

Alright. Got everything back in and running great. Omg does it sound so much better. Hell. I think it even runs better now. Ok. Tires and a/c next

Pit1981 05-04-2010 12:44 PM

Ok. New issue. My leafs are flat. Need to replace them. Guess that will be next on my growing parts list. I also have alot of little leaks forming. Gees this think is leaking worse than a chinook.

Leaking worse than a chinook (CH47) that's funny for those of us that have actually rode in one before...Its when it stops leaking, then you got a real problem(because you must be out of fluid)..LOL

Gotta love the hard work

Pit1981 05-10-2010 02:34 AM

Omg man. You were either mechanic on a **** hook or flew one. I was an apache mechanic and even our birds leaked. I remember doing a jump out of one with a bunch of infantry guys. The crew chief and pilot were messing with them. The crew chief would use the hydrolic pump and the pilot would gain altitude. Then he would stop and the pilot would drop it. Those grubs were freaking out. Trying to move the chief out of the way so they could pump and keep it in the air. I laughed for weeks cause of that

Pit1981 05-24-2010 04:51 AM

I think I'm gonna start replaceing more of the bushing some time this week if I get a chance. I have a new sound though. Only does it in drive and almost sounds like a mount loose. Sounds like a clicking noise but pretty loud in the cab. The sound is located in the center consol somewhere near my feet. In or on the tranny maybe?!? Help me out folks
