Default Golden Phenix: The Resurection

I have a 1999 Sport with the 4.0, 3 inch rough country lift kit, cooper discoverer at3 tires on stock wheels.

Currently the check engine light is on, it is burning oil, coolant, and leaking from the rear main seal.

A little story about my XJ:

This was my dads jeep which he owned for 12 years. Unfortunatly he passed away unexpectedly in May 2016 and left it to me. It was his fishing buggy and daily driver. He would never let this jeep go no matter what. Before he passed this jeep started having the symptoms listed above. We never had the chance to fix it together but I am planning to restore it in his memory.

A couple weeks ago I was lucky enough to find a block and head for $100.
Currently the engine is in the machine shop being cleaned and redone. I have a pretty solid idea of what i want to do to this jeep. With any luck, ill get it done.

I took this picture when we were surf fishing during the 2015 season. Best season we ever had.

Sorry to hear about your old man! At least you guys still get to ride together!

I would recommend looking at your valve cover gasket before digging into the rear main seal. Valve cover leak can look just like a rear main. I'll post a little diddy about this as soon as I find it.

EDIT: Here it is... http://cruiser54.com/?p=96

What does that entail? I'm curious what the plans are.

Im planning on turning it into a overland style vehicle. Im researching bumpers, roof racks and auxillary lighting. Im also looking into interior mods to be able to organize my camping/hunting/fishing gear.

Also I check my valve cover gasket and there was no leak.

Sounds like a plan. Adding any lift to it?

Check the other things too before digging into the rear main. Definitely don't want to dig into your rear main, and it end up that the leak was from somewhere else.
