French Wagoneer

Hi,

I love Grand Wagoneers, but they are not really usable anymore.
As I want to drive my cars, I looked for a Wagoneer.

Not an easy task in Europe. I found one in Italy.
1987,160 000 km, new paint, good engine (as far as I could check).
But plenty of small things to solve.
Still it was very expensive.

The aim is to build a usable and close to perfect Wagoneer. For road use.
I expect to go on vacations in Spain with it this summer (2600km in 3 weeks…)

I love the front of the wagoneer with the split headlights. The one from the movie "The Burbs" is the jeep that made me love that style can't wait to see it built

WOW talk about clean! Very cool.

Little update.

I did a lot of work to clean the car in and out, including the engine bay.
I have more issues than expected. Of course.

Just ordered a bunch of replacement parts.
Many hours of work to come.
But I am happy.

BTW, in Europe, RBS is an excellent supplier.
Fast and really care when an issue occurs.

Looks great... subscribed to see what you do.

Is it just gas or does it have that mixture of gas and propane hook up?

The under carriage of that jeep is insane clean. I mean mine would be considered a true find from somebody up north but that wagoneer is a step above.

I expect to make it ... perfect.

I’ll keep you updated.

That thing is in amazing shape. It does look a little on the high side. Take a measurement from the center of the hub to the bottom of the fender flares. Stock measurement should be around 17 inches if I remember right, which is about 43.2 CM.

Thanks for opening that topic. I also think it is too high.

I saw what makes it higher at the back. A piece a metal above the leaf springs that will be removed easily. You see them on one of the previous pictures.

But I don’t see anything special in the front suspension. I hope it is just something to « remove » as the restauration project is already on the high side.

if I don’t remove anything on the front the car might be pointing a bit to the sky.

If they used lift blocks in the rear they probably used coil spring spacers up front. It'll look like a solid block above the coil spring. If you can take a picture of the front coil spring area we can probably let you know for sure.

Is it what I show with my finger ?

Can I just ask any mecanic to take it away or do I have to buy a bracket

downs 06-10-2019 06:36 PM

Yeaj that looks like a coil spring spacer. Should just come right out when you take out the spring unless someone welded it in.

I guess the chock absorbers must be changed for shorter ones ?

can I buy these ?
What is the quality ?
brand is Adler, without more detail ...

Stock height is 17.5" from the center of the rim to the bottom of the fender flare in the FRONT.

Stock height is 17" from the center of the rim to the bottm of the fender flare in the REAR.

Allow for minor differences due to the level of the ground your on.

You do appear to have a lift but it looks to be 1-2" (hard to tell on the pictures). You can measure doing the fender trick and anything above those stock numbers is what your lift is. Also you can measure the metal blocks at the leaf springs and the spacers your pointing at up front.

If I was you and it's only 1-2" I would leave the lift in. Some came from the factory with a 1-1.5" upcountry package (they didn't use blocks or spacers). It will give it a better look, in my opinion. And since some did come with small lifts from the factory, it won't be like your straying away.

Also can you post some more pictures. That thing looks so nice.
