"Franklin"- Ballin' on a Budget
Well I've been around a while, but I never actually made a build. I'm usually don't post a whole lot of pictures of my rig, so most of you probably have no idea what it looks like. Well here it is:
~Disclaimer~
This is your run of the mill XJ. Not a whole lot of special tech here. I'm horrible at taking pictures while wrenching or wheeling.
Little bit of backstory if you're interested: I bought this as my first real vehicle. I was a sophomore in high school (I'm now almost done with my freshman year of college.) It was a '95 4 door base model (roll up windows, idiot lights, no tint) with 120k. Got it for $1300, and I was a happy camper.
I couldn't stand stocker life (no offense to any stock rigs out there,) and in my infinite wisdom, I purchased a discounted rough country 4.5" lift. Yeah, it's RC. No, it's not great, but I don't regret it for the price.
Tires were brand new 33x11.5 off-brand BFG a/t's that came off an 83 K20 I bought. Wheels are Pro Comp 16" steelies. I got the set of 5 for $170, almost brand new, because the guy on CL decided to go tons on his TJ.
Installed pics:
And here's me, thinking I'm cool (camo on camo does NOT match.)
I drove it around for a while, but decided that the stock bumpers were wimpy wimpy, so I picked up aftermarket front and rears:
At some point, the RC sticker made it's way onto the windshield... I'm too lazy to climb on the hood to take it off, so there it stays. I wheeled it for a bit:
Then got a good deal on a Ramsey 8k. Still works great:
Then added some extra lighting:
Got a SOLID diff cover:
Found some rust... Eww:
Can't find pics, but I fixed, primed, and painted it.
Took flares off:
Got tired of rubbing, so I trimmed up, did read cut and fold a little later:
Sat like this for a while, until I got some new meats. 33x12.5 DC Mud Countries:
Welded up a stinger bar/winch hoop:
Got my CF sticker 8) :
Went doorless:
And that's where I'm at. There's other, smaller stuff I didn't bother to document.
I'm starting to play in the rocks more, so near future plans are rock sliders, lockers, and stiffeners. Would also like to do a cowl intake, injector swap, hood vents, and some other small stuff before wheeling season really picks back up.

Cool xj dude, quick question, how'd you mount up a mirror with your doors off? I have a 97 xj with -96 door hinges that I've modified to go doorless but I dont have a mirror set up.

You could DIY the shackle relocation brackets..
2x6" rockers replacement seem to be said as the strongest protection. Here's my favorite two examples..
