So, I have put 2800 miles on the conversion thus far. Everything is going well. I have learned a few more things about diesels along the way. Such as, turbo diesel's shouldn't have a chambered muffler. Now it has a straight pipe. Surprisingly the noise isn't much louder, but it really allows the turbo to spool better.
My current setup has 3.55 gear ratios in the axles... Low end torque is not a complementary feature of this MB diesel engine. I am thinking about installing 4.10 ratios (also, I am running 235/75/15 tires). I have done the math and would still be able to cruise safely at 70mph in 5th gear.
Do any of you suggest installing a 4.10 gear set into my existing axles D30/C8.25 or would you suggest finding a 4cyl cherokee that came with the 4.10's and taking its axles?
This thread is due for some new pictures! And I still haven't gotten this thing muddy yet!
