First Xj Build

So after a few years of having to have a big truck to pull a trailer for work, I'm back in a jeep! I'm posting so I can keep track of what I've done, and to get motivation to work on it more. Working 60+ hours a week and having a 7 month old are a little bit of a motivation killer

So here's what I'm working with:

1996 4x4 4.0HO, 5 speed, and only 107K!

I was looking for a project that I could make my DD pretty quickly, so when this popped up on craigslist about 2 hours away, I got up as quick as I could. I bought it from the 2nd owner who said that he thought the motor was seized. When he was explaining it, he said that it would turn over some, but not always, so obviously not seized.

Long story short, I bought it for $900, towed it back to my shop, put a new starter in it because he had pulled the old one out, and some $10 battery terminals, and it started right up! So $1000 in, I had a good running Cherokee with only 107k.

I got really excited when I bought it, and had a slower week at work, so I did a few tings to it really quick and forgot to take pictures, but here's what I have so far:

The guy before me had pulled the radio out, and I really enjoyed having a double din unit with a backup camera in my previous truck, so I stuffed one in. I wish I had taken some pictures of the process, but I basically just did a little bit of cutting to make the hole bigger, and I had to cut the vents some. I used foil tape to seal the vents back up, and my A/C still blows Ice cold

The front brakes were grinding pretty bad, and I found out why pretty quickly when my pad shot out and broke my caliper:

I've honestly never seen a rotor this bad

Next, I did a tune up and also added an aFe stage 2 cold air intake, BBK 62mm throttle body, and Bosch 4 hole injectors. It runs like a dream now, and I'm getting 21-22 mpg! That is, when I'm not doing burnouts with my little 225/70's because I'm a dumb man-child.

Up next: I bought a RE 3.5 kit with the full leaf packs, some new pro comp 15x8's with 3.75 backspace, and 31/10.50 Kenda Klever's. I got busy at work again, so I'm hoping I'll have tie soon to get to it, I'm tired of my wife's car being bigger than mine

What the hell? Those are rotors? What is with the "sun" pattern?

Otherwise, nice buy man! Dig that color too!

Heck yeah, nice looking Jeep man. I'm in the same boat as you as far as time goes with kids, work, and school. Gotta keep going in on that jeep though. Really like the double din. Interior technology upgrades on an older automobile are tops! Look forward to seeing more of your posts.

Yeah one side of the rotor got worn completely down, so the sun pattern is the spacers between the 2 disks.

And I'm pumped about the color, I own a little auto body shop, so getting a new paint job in the same color is definitely on the list!

WOW! Yeah, curious how that's even possible.
