Default The Family Heirloom

I have put off starting this writeup for some time now.

My XJ is a 1996. It's never been in a major accident, never had a engine, transmission, or any kind of rebuild. As of this original post, Nov 9 2017, she has just over 192,500 miles.

This Jeep has a special place in my heart. My aunt bought her knew in 1996. Some of my earliest memories are of riding in this Jeep to the St. Louis zoo, sharing the backseat with my brother and a fat Labrador.

In 2006 my aunt went through a knee surgery and could no longer operate the clutch. My dad traded her the Pontiac I had been driving for this Jeep.

2009
In 2010 I joined the Seabees, and upon receiving my first duty in San Diego, I was in need of wheels. My dad, having used this Jeep to haul tile, decided it was time to pass it on. Since then she has been mine. I've done little things here and there, but it wasn't until the birth of my son that I decided it needed a few upgrades before he learns to drive on it.

I'll be coming back to edit this post with an upgrade list, and I will strikethrough items as I finish them.

So this is probably the earliest set of pics I have. Aunt was a smoker so the headliner was falling down. I ripped out the old one and paid the local shop to reupolster it back to OEM grey.

Just a cool Pic I took at night in a parking garage

This is probably the last picture I took of her before I started pumping her full of parts. At this point the only thing I had done was replace the wheels and put on the cold air intake. That's what the stock suspension on a 4x4 looks like when it's absolutely beat to **** and has no life left in it. It even had Monroe load leveling shocks in the rear and it was still sagging that low.

Hurst Universal shift **** is installed, but waiting on the shift Boot and adapter

Shift boot showed up today, but I have to say it's a little short. Guess that's what I get for getting something that's Universal for Hondas

Had an idea for a while now to install maintenance lights on the underbody. To clarify these aren't rock lights, they are going to be mounted aimed at major components.

I picked 10 up on eBay for $30 with free shipping.

I am updating this
I am still going to do this, but I am probably going to add some more lights to the plan.
Interior:
1x under drivers side dash, on switch, for use when changing fuses.
2x overhead in cargo area
2x led strips, under dash on each side, wired to door buzzer

Exterior:
1x engine compartment above mounted on hood, on switch
2x sides of engine compartment, on switch
2x underbody along flyweel, on switch
1x underbody beneath rear seat, facing gas tank and rear diff, on switch
