Ok, so, July 2nd 2010: I move into a new place, and my landlord had 2 vehicles for sale. A 1994 chevy camaro and some random SUV i didnt care about. I had my heart set on the camaro. For the next 5 months all I did was fantasize about driving that camaro. I hadn't driven in 2 years, since my explorer had blown up. Then, come december, I finally have the money, and my landlord says he's not comfortable selling me the camaro because it was a stick, I had little practice driving a stick. So he offered me the SUV instead, which turned out to be a Jeep. I had driven an SUV before, so I said " why not? " and bought it. Thus began the epic journey that has lead me to become a Jeep enthusiast.

The Jeep was a beaten and filthy old 1989 Cherokee, faded as crap silver paint, rusted beyond reason silver rims, and gray interior.I spent some time cleaning it up, then I go through hell at the MVA due to some past experiences with them. After a bit of running around like a madman and about $300, I finally get my temp tags.

I take it in for inspection...to discover a huge list of things wrong with it. Having no mechanical experience ( I barely knew how to change the oil ) I asked the shop how much for all the repairs...a whopping $700!!! I had no where near this amount, so I had to learn how to do the stuff myself. I bought the parts from pep boys ( which soon became my regular parts/fluids shop ), asked a few friends of the family for assistance ( they actually ended up doing most of the work ) and got everything fixed up, which consisted of:

new left tie rod end, repositioning of the windshield wipers, new serpentine belt, new brake hoses, new windshield ( had a massive crack on the right side of it ), new drives side window actuator ( manual windows ) and a new drivers side mirror. I got the windshield done by my insurance, everything else done by friends except for the wipers, which I repositioned myself. A few weeks and some minor fretting later, I took it for the reinspection. The day before I decided to name my Jeep, as I was worried about it not passing again for something stupid, and picked the name Anya, which means favored by God. It fit, because I needed a miracle to pass because I know there were some problems. I took it in, dude just checked the stuff I was supposed to have fixed, and a few minutes later I had me a street legal Jeep! ^_^ :head:

Fast foward a few more weeks, mid-febuary, I got the idea to change the, imo, boring color of it all. I couldn't afford a full paintjob, so I settled for painting the rims. I want to Home Depot, and started looking at spray paints. I came across a beautiful flourescent orange which, being my favorite color, was a no-brainer. Enter the legacy of Anya, the Jeep with the orange wheels. I had some leftover paint, part of the dash got the orange treatment as well. Looks badass in the blacklight that i'm planning on mounting on the ceiling.

I've driven her like this since then, and now, time has taken its toll on a first attempt, and the paint is faded and filthy. TIME TO REPAINT! I go back to HD, but can't find my precious orange paint. What's my next favorite color? BLUE! Time to paint the rims a pretty royal blue, which is what the whole vehicle will eventually be.

I'm halfway done that, with plans to replace my VC gasket, and paint the VC ( also royal blue ) within the next few days. Soon-to-exist mods include a roof rack, a budget lift, badass tires, hood vents, and a royal blue paint job with lightning streaking front to back. Once I get everyting in order, including a minor electric overhaul ( my wires keep f***ing up! ) and a cooling system flush, I plan on heading up to Rausch Creek and letting this almost entirely stock beauty shine in the spotlight, and take her for her first wheeling trip. Wish I could make it to NACfest, but that probably wont happen this year :icon_sad:. Oh well.

TIME FOR PIX!!!! ^_^

The first is already on here, its of Anya with newly painted rims tackling an evil snowpile, the second is of the painted dash. more on the way

Ok so some updates:

PROBLEMS!!!!!!! AUUUUUUUUUGH!!!!!!!!

My transmission is acting wonky, and i'm not quite sure what the problem is. Money is tight, so haven't really been able to do anything about it. Going to try when we get money in a week.

On a pleasant note, I have gotten the painting to 99%. I've still got the very middle of the roof, and some minor touch ups to do and she is DONE ^_^ I'll take and post pix tomorrow. I have more to say, but i'll have to post tomorrow, time has run out at the college. Night!

OKAY, time for some major updates for those who aren't regular posters on the maryland jeepers thread.

As it stands, Anya has been parked since 09/02, due to a blown head gasket, and according to a local shop, a cracked engine block. I'm now awaiting 11/01, so I can go up and get another engine from a fellow CF member, who just so happens to be ditching his old, busted engine. No structural damage to his, just a lot of tedious junk he doesn't want to deal with, so he bought a working engine from somebody else, and upon hearing of my plight, offered me his old one.

During August, I finished 99% of the painting. Only a small portion of the middle of the top is still unpainted. I have the paint right now, but don't have Anya...waiting for 11/01 to get her back from the shop, due to a towing fee I owe them. So that'll be happening soon.

Back on 09/28, I made a trip to the local junkyard with a few other CF guys, and picked up a load of things, which included a roof rack off a Grand Wagoneer, a rear windshield wiper switch/motor/arm, and a wire rack for hanging things inside. Due to the other issues, I haven't installed the wire rack inside, or the roof rack on top. I DID however, take the time to repaint the faded/rusted roof rack, and it is now a smexy combo of black supports, silver rails, and blue sliders. Will provide pix tomorrow.

Back in June, I replaced the valve cover gasket, and painted the valve cover the same pretty blue Anya would eventually become. It turned out great, except for the minor issue of the oil fill cap getting stuck and breaking due to the ever-so-slightly-smaller hole caused by the paint. Have since replaced that old broken fill cap with another from the JY. Also replaced the cracked thermostat housing, and jerry-rigged the newly broken CCV piping. Also picked up a replacement for that at the JY. Putting that on once I get the other engine in.

My exhaust pipe badly needs to be replaced, with 3 holes and only a few things of wire holding the flippin thing up, I just haven't had the time or money to put into finding one. Gotta get on that, she's overdue for emissions.

What i'm planning for it at the moment is this:

Bought a couple of offroad lights, going to mount them in the stock location on the bumper, and wire the switch through my stock switch-hole originally meant for fog lights.

Already wired up the switch for the rear wiper, but it turns out the motor was irrepairably seized for some unknown reason, so i've gotta track down a working motor for it.

Attach my roof rack and take some pix of the smexy.

After having torn it out in Feb, I've decided it's time to restore my headliner. What it will be is a surprise, but I promise it's positively epic.

I got a place that'll give me a set of 30" tires with at least 90% tread for $160 max, so when I can I'm snatching them up.

Asked the wife for Jeep money for Christmas, which if nothing else will go towards the 3-4 inch lift im planning on getting with my tax return in Feb. of next year.

and finally...PIX ^_^
little note on the last pic, ignore the crappy paint job on the hood, i knew i was going to get a can or 2 of the blue for touch up, so i sprayed that on with the silver i had just to see roughly what itd look like. I like it, so when I get to painting again, im painting blue over, then taping it off and painting that basic design on it the right way.

EDIT: forgot to mention, also did the angry eyes headlight mod, and painted the front bezels/grill...repainting the grill silver eventually.

also going to put some decent speakers in her eventually, so i can listen to music ^_^

JeepingDan 10-22-2011 06:39 PM

What made you go with blue for a color?

sycoglitch 10-22-2011 06:40 PM

The blue looks good. I'm use to seeing your avatar I didn't realize you painted her. I do remember you talkin Bout the rims in the past though. It seems with all of us here, our jeeps slowly get built up to spec. I just badly need tires which I'm lookin to get in a week or two jeep willing

P.s. And painting is a headache lol.

JeepingDan 10-22-2011 06:47 PM

X2 bout painting. It's a pita taping off all the stuff you don't want painted and all the prepping.
Took me all most all day to get mine ready to paint and that was just for the color. No body work.

iv just always liked it, and i knew that orange wouldnt look very good on her. not on the body anyway. on the rims it looked amazing, so i might return the rims to orange.

make that x3 on painting...i didnt feel like dealing with it all, so some windows got smeared with paint during the process. i just cleaned them off afterwards. so much easier.
