Finished my custom 2-1 collector and also slung a bit of exhaust bits together to cross another item off the list
This took a bit of patience and I struggled with that... As I told a few of my other critics - this will make exhaust noises and thats All it needs to do.
I pulled both down tubes and started welding up the seams but ran out of time.
More to come and hopefully a new exhaust noises next time!
Jeep Guy
Thanks
Im doing a low budget LS swap for a neighbors TJ. The donor is an 04 trailblazer. Fairly sad donor but free. 4l60 5 bolt so hopping to use an S10 231 front case but if there’s a 6 bolt factory adapter I’d have them get one.
Who do you use to remove the VATS? The guy in Hudsonville or LT1 swaps?
Yours swap is looking great. What did you spray the T-case with.

you've got me pretty confused with this 5 bolt talk? The 231 anything (thats a 231J-231C-231D) are all 6 bolt. Same goes for the 241 -all 6 bolt...
Did you remove the tail adapter housing from the trans and leave it attached to the front of the tcase??
I have a buddy with HP tuners that did it for me. $100 in gm credits. There's a way to do it for free but i didnt want to download one of the mutliple programs to do it.
Tcase got painted with some leftover paint i had in my gun at work. Its nothing special besides the color that it is.
Your talking about Hudsonville - how local are you to thay area?
The tail on the 4L60/ transfercase adapter are 5 bolt. I’ve seen S10 231 t-cases are also 5 bolt not 6 like Jeep and Dodge. Also different spline count than Jeep. Was wondering if the S10 case was the only 5 bolt or if there were others like a 241.
My son lives in Wyoming Michigan. just off Chicago ave. My wife kids and I have spent the last 25-30 years camping at Grand Haven, Holland, Pentwater and best at Silver Lake. We always tow a Jeep to go duning. Great place Michigan.

this is news to me, thanks for that. Its not like they skip using the a 6th stud - its an actual different pattern. Wow, The more you know - you know.
In any case the input shaft(spline count) can be remedied easily with a different input soo long as the input bearing bore/depth are the same and the snout length is long enough to meat the trans seal.
In any case its nice to catch a local around these parts. Not that often I find another mitten fella in here.
The down pipes got fully seam welded, retained some old sensors to keep the threads clean.
Next came the test fit which was a complete success soo the 2-1 collector got tacked to the down pipes. Essentially this custom Y-pipe for the swap is done!
Manifold studs weren't cooperating soo no new exhaust noises just yet.
Going to replace the studs this week and then I can move onto finalizing the wiring in the engine bay.
Exhaust is finished but now im dealing with a pile of codes... several codes for the egr and a couple codes for the transmission. The trans im sure will be resolved once I top off the fluid level - its been as is since I pulled the drivetrain soo im sure its more than just a qrt or 2 under. Egr codes heck idk but I'll figure it out.
The new yokes are here. Did a similar thing with my other FSJ build and 241 tcase. Turned down some old 205 flange yokes to match the install of this factory front yoke and the aftermarket yoke that came with my sye kit.
Last little bit is finally resolving this lower rad hose ordeal. The factory radiator lower hose is routed up - right into the LS steering pump pulley. This makes it challenging to find or fit a hose with a gentle bend to then go towards the passenger side - its awkward!
My solution is going to be chopping the tube off and clocking it 90° in to the flow towards the passenger side. Simple enough deal, it will still clear the steering gear and eliminate the need of an awkward bend.
2 weeks time has not faired well enough... between holiday and sickness ive fallen off the progress wagon as it were...
I was itching to get back to it this morning so i got the simple things done. Topped off the trans fluid, cleaned power and grounds, verified fuses are all good.
My only sharable progress is the winters gated shifter i installed.
Unfortunately im stuck on troubleshooting again... back to a crank and sputter but will not fire off - frustrating to say the least!
I've had a few people ghost me for troubleshooting and honestly im rather tired of dealing with it - this may be the point where this jeep gets pushed off to the side until I can afford a painless harness and go from there.
By no means is this the end/sale of the project - just the potential halt of progress unfortunately.

post your questions and I’ll do my best to help. The older red blue systems are quite simple. If you have hp tuners, I can send you over a few different proven to run cals to try.
I probably also have a brand new Amazon harness at the shop I would unload dirt cheap for you.

Well i did a thing and threw my wallet at it per say-
Convinced myself a painless wiring harness would be my next reasonable solution to hopefully solve this and some other problems soo out with the factory hanress and fuse block
Then in comes the painless harness!
Ultimately I was pretty fed up with trying to find a reasonable mounting setup for the factory fuse block and pcm but it just wasnt happening. Also the extent of the factory harness being way long in areas just turned into a rather distasteful mess. It was working but it bothered me...
The real glory to this was after all said and done and i confirmed fuel air and spark - turns out the factory chevy harness wasnt an issue at all. The fact i had done soo many start attempts in multiple intervals and ahort runs times with damaged/missing o2 sensors did me in. The spark plugs were fuel fouled!
Threw in a set of take offs from my caprice tune up last year and even with the fuel relay pulled this thing fired over on existing fuel in the cylinders Yikes! Im lucky I didn't hydro lock the engine.
Soo i have some new plugs, another set of new o2 sensors (painless harness plug is different than the already new sensors i had just bought) and a couple oil filters for an oil change this weekend.
looking forward to another potential short startup video this weekend after all is said and done!
Glad to hear it was something simple in the end! For an ecu mount, we normally use GM # 15995679. They are cheap and very universal.
The proof will be in the pudding this weekend after I get all the new things installed. May even get the radiator plumbed as well - we shall see.
I've seen those mounts a time or 2 and ive heard the reference ?They are S10 pcm mounts? Seemingly challenging to score in the wild of a parts yard but Amazon and the likes have them cheap enough ( omg cheap you arent kidding )
I dig the quick release style setup and that it also reverts the bulky end up. This could clear my hood supports nicely and offer a little more choosy placement. Its going in my cart for sure!
