Dodge Dakota leaf conversion / Grand Cherokee coil spacers

so what exactly does the Dodge Dakota leaf conversion and Grand Cherokee coil and spacers do for a Cherokee? I'm stil a noob to XJs obviously... does this lift it up a bit or improve flex? :help:

It's just cheap way to get a lift.

how much does it lift up an XJ compared to stock?

Dodge Dakota and Chevy s-10 rear leafs are common for use in "Bastard Pack" lifts on XJ's. Basically you Mix/Match you swap the leaves into the rear prings of your XJ, giving lift. You KEEP your XJ main leaf, and add to that. Amount of lift varies from 2-4" depending on the leaf combination you use.

For the front you can use spacers (up to 3") or springs to get lift. 93-98 Grand Cherokee's (ZJ) use the same suspension as an XJ, so lift parts for both the XJ and ZJ with fit. ZJ V8's sometimes have heavier front springs (1-1.5" lift) and a heavier Tie rod.

Budget lift list i have compiled......for bastard packs you can get almost any lift you want depending on how you stack them....

http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/b...fit-xj-847303/

Suspension & Lift:

1. ZJ V8 Upcountry Coils = 1-1.5" lift
2. F-150/Bronco Coils ('79-ish) = 4-4.5" lift
3. S10 (P/U or Blazer) leaf packs (cut eyes off S10 main and bolt pack under XJ main) = 3-4" lift (may require use of shims)
4. Dakota Bastard Pack (do same as with S10 pack) = ~4" lift
5. JK shocks = slight mod to fit 2-4" lift (some dispute....see page 12)
6. MJ Shackles = 1/2" lift
7. Camaro Spring Isolators = 1.5" lift
8. Full size Blazer Bastard Pack (do same as S10 pack) = 4-4.5" lift (may require use of shims) may be stiffer than S10 leafs
9. ZJ spring isolators = stronger, metal core, can be stacked
10. GM fullsize pickup shackles ('95-99) = 1.5" lift, better shackle angle
11. Thunderbird Coils ('83-97) = 3-4" lift (varies in lift and softness by year and trim package)
12. Any 2.5" wide leaf spring can be used between to make a bastard pack (they may differ in stiffness and lift)

I actually have that exact lift...Got everything for $69...Take a little time to get everything right but well worth it when your done.
Im not sure how much lift it gave me but it looks good...

posjeepxj 04-08-2010 05:09 PM

thats how i started. I still rock a bastard pack in the rear but i cant remember what combo i have. pieces of 2 xj packs and a s10 pack all thrown in there untill i liked it. You gota play with them to get what you want

Gillette1987 04-08-2010 10:31 PM

so if i wanted to run 33' tires, what bastard pack combo should i do? im an equally tight budget person and would like to do this rather cheap like how 92greenxj did for $69

posjeepxj 04-08-2010 10:41 PM

i duno. 1st (with eyes cut off) 2nd and 3rd of an s10 under a jeep main normally give you betwenn 3.75 and 4.25. if that helps. It really is a trial and error kinda thing

the posting that posjeepxj put up about the cheap lift is going to REALLY help, thanks!

this is the route i'm looking to take!!! subscribed!!!!!!!

XJ?2010 04-09-2010 05:12 PM

for 33's you need a min. of 4" lift ands thats with a lot of trimming. And at 4" of lift your gonna need sway bar endlinks, LCA's and relocate the trackbar. Your also gonna have vibes so shims and a T case drop will be needed.

posjeepxj 04-09-2010 08:03 PM

theres some 3in longer shocks in this one. the sensatrac numbers will apply down to cheaper shocks but the senatracs ride nice

http://www.rocklizardfabrications.co...dget_boost.htm

you would be suprise how much lift you can do by yourself (without buying stuff) just by reading what other people have done

cheack out my build page or

With the dakota bastard pack I see you mentioned shims and I'm wondering what type of shims. Are you refering to degree shim and if so what degree shim should be used.
