Difference in XJ sub models

So i have seen many jeeps and i own a 1992 Cherokee Laredo and my friend has a Cherokee Country. What are all the differences between all the XJ sub-models?

the sticker on the side haha, im curious to know too. i know aftermarket parts are universal on most xjs

Generally the color, trim, and sometimes the interior has different features but other than that i don't think it really matters

some have bigger axles like the sport.

never heard that one, i thought that all depended on towing package?

PolarXJ 08-30-2010 11:07 AM

thats one way to look at it as well. The sport and country came with the tow package.

What exactly IS a "tow package"? Mine says SPORT on the side, but the VIN comes back as COUNTRY.........I don't even have a trailer hitch.

didnt some of the countrys come with upgraded suspension from the factory. I notice most of them sit a bit higher then the rest.

^^ Those have the factory Up-Country option. They had a built-in 1" lift over standard, and had no rear sway bar. Country edition doesn't necessarily mean it has the Up-Country option...and it doesn't have to be a Country edition to have the Up-Country package either. It's all wonderfully confusing!

dans01classic 08-30-2010 12:38 PM

sound like it. Personally i think they should have canned the rear sway on all of them. . .pointless. And it wouldnt hurt to give them all a little boost from the factory. Mine sat so damn low when i bought it some cars (no exaggeration) roofs were higher then mine. It was rediculous.

yeah i knew the country didnt have the rear sway bar and had better suspension but i think it mainly comes down to colors, trims, and interior. But no matter what the stock sublevels are it doesnt matter because youre gonna do so much aftermarket work you wont even know what package you have until you look at the decal on the side

RedZeppelinXJ 08-30-2010 06:19 PM

yea its all mainly trim options

Base/SE = the basic which means no power anything

Sport = power windows and locks, cloth seats

Laredo = power windows, locks, and seats (power/comfort tranny option if pre-'91)

Limited = leather seats, power everything

Briarwood = leather seats, power everything, wood panelling

havent done much with Country, Pioneer, Chief, 60th Anniv., Freedom, Classic or any of the others

My last XJ was a police package. Had a high idle feature and came stock with full skid plating.

My daughter has a Chief it has power windows cloth interior and the Dana 44 under the rear. seats and mirrors are manual and it does not have a hitch.

My son has a sport and it is all manual and has a D35. Except for the trans. its auto.
