it was the water control valve that connects to the heater core...it was gushing coolant when i popped the hood and i wasn't sure if mabie the hose is just loose or mabie its cracked...is this a common problem?

Yes, that valve gets brittle and breaks. You can run without it, but coolant will continuously flow through heater core, versus being regulated by heater controls.

On front of block and screwed into waterpump is the 'water pump inlet tube'.
