Cherokee Lift

I have a quick question about lift kits. I am looking to put a suspension lift in my 2000 Jeep Cherokee sport. This is my first Jeep and first lift so I really don't know much of anything.
I guess I should start by saying what I want. I want to put in a 1.5 inch suspension lift, and I am looking at the rough country kit that comes with shocks. Now please before you go off on how I should just put a three inch kit in please hear me out. This Jeep is a beater/off road vehicle and is in no way for cruising around the mall and looking good. The only reason I am lifting it at all is I need the new shocks as the ones I have will not currently pass state inspection. I figured that if I was going to replace the shocks I might as well lift it which I had planned on eventually and putting in new shocks, then taking them out in a few months to lift it just did not make sense. I don't want to lift it 3 inches because I am not putting bigger tires on it. I just want a little more clearance (I really don't need much at all) and the new shocks.
NOW for my question. Would you need to get new U bolts or leaf springs for a short lift like this? From what I have found it does not look it but I am not 100% sure. Also does anyone have anything to say about the Rough Country lift? Would it be worth it? Please don't go off on me though. I am just getting into this stuff, I have zero experience working on vehicles and off roading other than what I have already done on this one. I am trying to learn as much as I can about it. Thanks for any help.

The general rule of thumb is you never reuse the ubolts, just get new ones. From what I've read people have negative reviews of Rough Country but your results may vary. For 1.5 inch lift you can just do coil spacers and maybe shackles for the lead springs but a new leaf pack would be ideal since your current leafs are most likely flat.

Thank you for the information. I will be sure to pick up some new U bolts. As my Jeep is mostly a rust bucket it will probably need them anyways. As for the kit, do you have a brand you recommend? I was looking at rough country because they were repetitively inexpensive. I guess I should have added I am on a budget 😂. I just want this Jeep to explore class six roads and maybe a little worse than class six. As where I am going next year will not allow me to use it I do not want to spend several thousand on lift and tires. I just want it as a toy for the summer before I leave. I might come back to it someday, but for now I just want a cheap beater that barely passes inspection (all it needs for that is the shocks). I found a rough country lift for $250 so that is what I am working with for price right now. Thanks again

Some people will suggest to wait until you can afford something nice and others will tell you to get what you can afford at the moment. For a 1.5 inch lift, the rough county kit probably isn't bad, I belive Rubicon Express had a similar kit and Old Man Emu. You can also scavenge parts in the junk yard that will work for an inch and a half.
