Cherokee #3
I got another Cherokee. This time I decided I don’t want something that I’m going to have to dump a bunch of money just for it to run. So I bought this 2000 Sport with 4x4. It has a NP242 and is stuck in Full Time 4wd. Heat works, A/C will work once I finish putting the line on that the P.O. hadn’t got the chance to install. This Jeep also has had the transmission rebuilt, radiator replaced, new compressor, new battery, newer tires, replaced u joints, fluids changed, and a close to immaculate interior. Duties will currently revolve around daily daily driving and upgrades are going to be slllooooowwwww. Problems are rust on the roof and some weird electrical issues which I had on the 99 so repair shouldn’t be lengthy. |

When I bought my '00 about 6 years ago I had surface rust issues on the hood and roof too. Was kinda running but not driveable. Nothing crazy. But the price was not to bad and the rest was pretty solid for the most part. At least for New England anyway. Wish I had the 242 like you. Cause basically she is just a DD and that would be better for driving in the snow IMO. Might make the swap someday. |

I am guessing the Jeep dealer charged for 8 gallons new because I've never seen a 28 gallon stock tank. Eventually I will be able to add photos. But this well taken care of Jeep has plenty of issues.
- Running lights are always on regardless of headlight switch position. PO had the radio installed at Best Buy. Probably going to have to chase down an install issue. - Factory fog lights don't come on. Going to source a fog lamp switch just in case. - E-Fan doesn't come on whether it is at 210 or A/C on. - I need to finish installing refrigerant lines to get the A/C working. Hopefully. - Brakes drag horribly almost to the point of locking up after I put new pads and rotors on. Brakes were horribly trashed so new calipers and hoses are being sourced. - Back latch sticks - P0138 Downstream O2 fault - Did the wiring checks and observed fuel trims and data and have come to the conclusion of it needing a sensor. - Has trailer wiring but no hitch. - 0331 head. Good now but I don't want it. Looking for a TUPY head. Enough to keep me busy before doing any kind of upgrades. Upgrades Wish List: - Winch and bumper - Better rear bumper - Lighting - B&M Transmission Cooler - Possible bigger tires and lift but we'll see. |
Any photos?

So come to find out that CF and my iPhone don't get along....
Here is an image of it on the day i brought it home. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...809b633438.jpg |
I have started to take care of the rust and faded bumper caps. Here's an interior picture (will need a new driver's seat) and how the Jeep looks today.

Looks pretty nice. I don't think I've ever seen rust on the roof like that. I'm guessing it has something to do with the Florida sun based on your location?

So I decided as the first "upgrade" was to do the interior lights to LED. I used CANBUS LEDs from Amazon. I got a pack of 561s (Overhead Console, Cargo (Requires some modification), and Engine Compartment). 194s (20 pack for Shifter, T-Case, License plate), BA15s/3157 (footwell).
Everything went well except the footwells stopped working last night. Add that to the fog lights not working, and the always on with key on running lights. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...f4e68d8357.jpg Overhead console before. Will take a after picture later. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...d3eed86a69.jpg Amazon! Same Day Shipping and not badly priced too. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...0b7ee9c3c2.jpg Burned out and no filament. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...ea0126a3f2.jpg BA15s (3157) LED lights from Amazon https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...eb42f58e26.jpg Footwells lighted up! Well for a day anyway... |

That was going to be my first step tonight as they worked great for about 9 hours and now nothing. The rest of the interior lights work as intended. Well except the cargo light but there is a connection issue somewhere.
Of course at the time I was clueless about LED's having polarity. They kinda worked then did not. Talking minutes maybe not hours though. Might have even been just flickering. But posted here about it thinking the bulbs were bad. Then I was schooled about polarity. I did not know. LOL. |
