cheapest cherokee ive bought
Well heres the story gents, im currently stationed here in Jacksonville NC with the USMC. i bought a 2 door 5 speed 99 cherokee in march when i was still in callifornia. ive been lookin for an ax 15 for it to make it 4x4 since mine is only 2wd. I found one for 300$ when i got here to NC so i picked it up. then it was time to find a t-case axles, yada yada. so after buying this trans and hearing it from my wife for a day or two about how i should just buy another on thats already 4x4 to lift and such i come across this 97 cherokee 4dr 4x4 on the good ole craigslist for 1000$. its said to have a good tranny and 170k miles but no motor altough it does have all the parts for the motor minus the block so i figure hey maybe its worth calling on. upon calling on it i found out it was owned by this awesome older couple who got it from their son before he got stationed in germany. i only wanted it as a parts jeep so the cheap **** i am i asked the lady would you take any less than 1000. she says yeah i can take 800 and i was pretty stoked i didnt even make an offer an got her down 200$. so i make plans to come look at it and go about my day, only to get a call 5 minutes later from the ladys husband saying that she would give it to me for 400$. at this point i was pumped. finally i went to see the cherokee to find out just how clean it was, minus the headliner and missin head unit there wasnt a stain or tear in the interior, the exterior was sun faded and had some minor bruises but nothing terrible. the next trick was getting it home. my 2wd cherokee didnt have a hitch so i gave the couple 200$ down and took the hitch and wiring harness that was on the 97. then i went and picked up a dolly. im sure it was a sight to see one cherokee hauling another down the road. anyways this is where im at.
i have all the lights and stuff but the guy had taken them off when he pulled the motor
pretty clean but ive been de-greasing it
it has the matching spare as well
sorry for the pad interior pics but even the center council latch works and isnt broken!
saggy head liner but thats the worst of it
and my tow turd thats the day i got it it no longer has the stripes or extra roof rack. it still is a project but between moving across country, buying a house and working on the house it kinda got put on the back burner.

No, used an AW4 auto. It was really simple. Started at about 9am and was done and driving at 6pm. Took a lunch break in between. I imagine adding a clutch pedal/ master cylinder and associated parts would be slightly more difficult and time consuming. I'm using a 231 case.

Yes that was at foss and they have that one and a few of the older body style. This one i got lucky and just came in the day i went to look its pretty stripped though no interior besides the carpet dash and headliner also all the trim is there and in good shape the only broken piece was the piece that goes above the rear hatch. They were very reasonably priced out there too. I got the motor header panel drivers side door panel taillight and a few other little things for 265$.
