I dont know a lot about cars. but iv been working on the carburetor on my 2.8L 86 cherokee . before today the to gates were help completely open with a paperclip. i went and grabbed all the necessary linkage that i needed from a junk jeep and connected those along with a few vacuum lines. i have to open the two gate manually in order to start it. then when i turn the engine off the smaller gate slowly closes all the way and prevents me from starting the engine back up. also the larger gate seemingly stays shut at all times.

the person who owned it before me dismantled the whole air intake system and plugged most the lines with screws.

The second i manually open the gates it starts right up and runs fine. hey just arent staying open when the engine is off.

help?
