This may have been part of your problem. The common wisdom up here says that every time you start your rig at colder than -10 without plugging it in, you take 5-10k off the life of the motor.

A block heater(or at least a pan heater) is pretty cheap insurance. Ymmv

Yeah probably. The new one has one in it already. I'll have to get an extension cord for at my apartment
