Sup Fellas,

I've been coming here often, while searching Craig's List and finally took the plunge and got a Black 1999 XJ 4.0 inline 6. It has 176,000, no rust, some hail damage, and a cracked exhaust manifold. It already has new 30" Federal MTs, a Rough Country 3.5 lift, RC short arms, RC steering stabilizer, and procomp full leaf rear. Im so glad it doesn't have an add a leaf.

First thing I did was pull over and lower the tire pressure from 45 to 30. When I got home I changed the oil and flushed the rust... I mean coolant and went inside and ordered a few things. I ordered a speed daddy header, and brown dog motor mounts, because of a cracked manifold.

My Buddy advised that I go ahead and change the transmission mount too, since I have to loosen it up when I put in the motor mounts, So I ordered an OEM trans mount also.

TRIM
I'm starting to feel like I own an XJ. The air-dam was broke and in bad shape so I trimmed it off, Also the fog lights where hanging by the wires so they got deleted. I will use the existing wires and switch on something else later. I also got rid of the fender flares and trimmed the front bumper endcaps. Then pulled a few dents in the hood from hail damage.

NEW HEADLINER.
My New roll of headliner and adhesive spray came in. This was actually kinda fun, I wish I had a before shot of how bad it was. It was stapled up with a staple gun, The PO had written notes with sharpie on it and the sun visors, and it ripped in several places. Now the new one is in. It feels like the life of luxury.. its nice. I got the sun visors wrapped in it too so it matches. Now I just need for my header, gasket, and mounts to come in so I tear into that.

Hatch door stays open now. I was wondering what the 2x4 in the back was for, until the hatch fell and hit me in the back of the legs. I keep all my tools back there so I'm always in and out so thats a no go. I ordered 2 struts for the hatch door off ebay and installed those. Little things like that make me feel so relieved.

While I was back there the door lock to the rear hatch would not work at all with the key or the power locks, so I disassembled the cover and found the actuator. It has somehow worked loose and there was too much slack so whenever you turn the key or hit the power locks it would not travel far enough to unlock the door. Working it back into place and zip tying it seems to have fixed it.

SPARE AND WHEEL POSTS
I saw that one of the lugnut studs was broke so I ordered a set, comes in ten, and ordered post bearing to install it. Took the drum off which took quite a bit of beating from a sledge. Then popped out the broke stud... more beating from the sledge. I feel alot better knowing thats in.

I know your supposed to use a torque wrench when changing a tire, but not everyone does... Speaking of which I needed a spare so I ordered a stock wheel, bottle jack, and a matching tire. I Strapped it on top, because I tried it in the back and it takes up too much real estate, and its a hassle getting tools in and out too.

Power Steering and Valve Cover Leak
I noticed a little bit of smoke and a burnt smell after cranking the wheel hard and found the high pressure leak. I picked up some Flare Nut Wrenches and a few other things, and installed a high pressure hose and new Mopar PS fluid.

I had a bunch of oil near the rear of the valve cover, so replaced the gasket with a fel-pro gasket, and torqued the cover back down. Im digging the Fel-pro gaskets they seem pretty good. Well see how they hold up.

Trim, Trim, Trim.
I couldn't stand the stock flares and bumpers, so I did a cut and fold job on the rear wells and cut and fold the quarter panel. I also trimmed the front and rear bumpers. I love it now. :thumbup1:

I got that speed daddy header and it cracked like the stock one after a month. Pay to have a flexible coupler put in just below the header or you'll experience same thing.

Thank you, and thanks for the tip. I noticed a big dent after the down pipe, so i have been thinking of redoing the whole exhaust. New down pipe, high flow cat, muffler, and tail pipe. I'll squeeze this idea in there too. Hopefully before I crack this new header.

My Speed Daddy Header, Brown dog motor mounts, and trans mount came in. I spent a few hours every day after work on that.

1. Tues I soaked everything in PB Blaster all the bolts to the mounts, exhaust manifold and downpipe.
2. Wednesday I removed everything, and I also test fitted the intake manifold on top of the new header. It needed some modification just like I read. I could see a huge gap between the flange and block when looking from underneath. So I took a grinder to the corner of valve six and to the support strut to valve one. I also had to grid down the edge to a flange on the header. Now it fits like a champ.
3. Thurs I installed everything back torqued the bolts that I could get to, and just tightened the ones that I couldn't reach. I broke the PCV Valve in the process, Doesn't make sense to have a plastic antennae on top of a tank but what ever. thankfully that's a orielys part.
4. I finished up Fri by installing the Brown Dog motor mounts and Trans mount. Got done just in time for the weekend.
5. Taking it out on a few trails on Saturday.

On the Browndog Motor mounts, I got the poly mounts even though alot of people say it needs to be the rubber ones, I love the drag race fell. I'm actually quite surprised that there's not that much vibrations. There is a little when you first start it up, but it quickly becomes unnoticeable. YMMV

with everything in the new header runs a lot better... Sounds 100% better too. The wife's impressed, Jeep's running good. Good weekend.

After a new coolant leak appeared I took it to oreilys to get a hose and got them to scan the check engine light with an OBD while I was there.

P0138 Oxygen sensor heater bank 1, shorted to ground. Said It happened twice. I wasn't sure what that meant so I took a picture of it and google it. From my research its the sensor after the catalytic converter.


I had a heck of time finding an OEM sensor. Ohh theres plenty of Bosch ones but thats not what I want. I finally found a NGK 23099 Oxygen Sensor on Amazon, and started soaking the old one in PB Blaster. I got the new one in, then reset the battery and no more ugly CE lights
