The vacuum reservoir provides vacuum for the HVAC and cruise control (if equipped) when the engine isn't producing vacuum, such as full throttle. Without it hooked up then you have a vacuum leak, assuming you left the end of the line open. A vacuum leak will cause it to run poorly.

Vacuum leak - in a nut shell - : The engine sucks in air through the throttle body, the computer controls the fuel delivery based on the amount of air sucked through the throttle body. Vacuum leak introduces more air AFTER the throttle body. The computer is unaware of this extra air, so that makes it run lean.

If it is dying for days at a time randomly, I would start looking at electrical issues. Loose connections, bad grounds, etc.

Exultations and huh-za
Eugene runs again

It seems that the wire that makes the coil work was corroded
(good and probably educated guess "Bad idea" )
I unplugged it then plugged it back in and it ran like it never had a problem
I cleaned it and put dielectric grease on it
runs great
now I can start on my bumper

Dielectric grease actually PREVENTS an electrical connection. It is used on spark plug boots to keep them from seizing and from arcing out on other things. Spark plugs work at ridiculously high voltage. People also use dielectric grease in the BACK of electrical connectors to keep water out.

You need to spray that stuff out of the connector with contact cleaner and put some OXGaurd in the connector. You can pick up both from any hardware store. Oxgaurd is good for PROMOTING connections.

Glad you got it sorted out.
