Not all bumper-guards are created equal. And by-the-way... Neither are bumpers! Although I didn't document it... I purchased/returned many rear-bumpers before I got one to match/fit. Apparently, the rear-bumper of a Wagoneer-XJ is different than a Cherokee-XJ.
I also purchased/returned many after-market rear bumper-guards... None fit well... Gave-up and compromised.... Until now.
Note: I was only able to find NOS of the right-rear bumper-guard… As a result… The search for after-market.
I went back to where I purchased the only rear bumper that fit... Lo-and-behold… They sell left and right bumper-guards just like the parts catalog shows. Pooh on the one-size-fits-all. Below documents the journey.
At first... I couldn't distinguish between the folds, creases, crevices, or contours! It seems there is a lot of excess carpet around the edges. Not a bad thing! But a lesson-learned shared.
Will need to remove the side-panels and do some trimming.

Also, how did those roof rack strips work out for you? Not exactly like OEM, but pretty better than no seal at all.
*edit* I went back and noticed the RockAuto invoice was for the bumper - So you're saying that part number is the correct rear bumper?

Rear-bumper(s)... I couldn't find the pictures of the multiple bumpers I purchased compared to my original. If I had them... It would show when the purchased bumpers were laid next to my original... They were either the wrong length or the wrong shape.

I would like to see some pictures as you are fitting it. I am about at the point of ordering carpet for my '87, and am considering ACC. But, I plan on using cut pile. Did you order it with the mass backing? And, does your front include the jute padding?

One final question/favor...any chance you have any pics of the rear cargo area sans carpet? A couple of my rear cargo metal runner strips recently popped out and I'd like to see how they were originally affixed...I can't quite figure it out.

Unfortunately, I don't have any photos. On the back of the cargo-strips are spikes that push thru the carpet, then pinch to hold the strips in place.
If you are referring to the cargo area metal slides on the floor, yes. The end caps were riveted, and the slides fit between the ends. After I pulled my carpet out, I ground the remaining rusted pins off, primed and painted.
