Thanks guys.

In prep for my CB install, I made a small tab to mount my antenna and welded it to the cage. Supposedly installing the antenna in the middle of the roof gives better reception, so this seemed like a good spot. I'll just run the cable under the cage and through the doorframe near the upper A-Pillar so I won't need to drill any more holes in the roof.

That is one seriously nice rig, and an equally seriously good clean bit of work!

How long of a whip do you have?

Brent T 10-02-2011 09:10 AM

I don't have one yet. Probably 48". Most places I wheel there's few or no trees so it should be ok. Probably just run with no antenna except when I wheel it so I can get it in and out of the garage. Planning to go with a Cobra 75WXST radio (the one with the hidden module and all the controls in the microphone). Unscrew the antenna, hide the mic and no one will even know it's there.

Haha, I could have guessed. Your keeping everything else so clean, why would the CB be visible?

Again, well done.

Finally got around to moving the horns. When I trimmed the front bumper endcaps, the horns were exposed and looked bad, so I just removed them. Today I extended the wiring and mounted them to the back of the front crossmember.

Good idea.

I'm looking for replacement horns myself. The OEM one is pretty weak. Thinking of trying to find one off a Honda Accord - those suckers are LOUD!

No new updates for the build, but I did spend last Saturday with the local NAXJA chapter for some shenanigans on Judgment Day Trail just north of Phoenix. I was in a little over my head, but made it through without breaking or needing a tug. Not bad for 32's and no lockers - I had my 9 year old son with me and we had a blast. Wheeled with a great bunch of guys who were a lot of help any time we got hung up or needed some encouragement.

Dude! That is an absolutely beautiful job. I will be driving my XJ on the interstate for long distances (3K miles at a time) up north and sometimes on the pipeline ROW's for business use on those trips. My concern is this: with the amount of exposure I get on the road and so many larger vehicles around me while on these constant trips, what type of cage would you recommend to stiffen the platform and give me some added crash protection in the event of an accident? I won't be wheeling it to the extreme and I have to haul customers to lunch and such, so I need something that is not as obvious, yet strong and durable. I ask you this out of respect for the amazing job you did and how not noticable yours is - even with the incredible amount of protection it offers. Thanks!

Very nice. I love your attention to detail; normally a little lacking in XJ modifications. I'm staying tuned for future modifications.

That has to be the cleanest cage I've ever seen man! that high lift jack mount is also very well placed. keep it up
