Default Tyler's 99 XJ DD Build

Mission:

Build a clean reliable daily drive that can handle heavy off road adventures.

Jeep:
1999 Cherokee Sport – Black
4.0L I6 Engine
AX15 5 Speed Manual Trans
NP231 T-Case w/ Advanced Adapters SYE
HP D30, Detroit True Track Limited Slip & 4.56 gears
C8.25, Spartan Locker, 29 spline Yukon alloy axles & 4.56 gears
Started with an OME Hybrid Lift from DPG Off-road, 4" lift and have since make some tweaks
35"x12.5"x15" BFG Mud-Terrain KM2 on stock ecco rims

Ground Zero:
From the start I knew I wanted OME components. OME has always gotten great reviews from the Jeep community and I loved the performance of the OME HD leaf pack I had in my old 97 XJ. After a lot of research I ended up going with a lift kit from DPG Off Road instead of piecing together my own OME Franken Lift. Three factors drew me to DPG, first they have extensive experience building XJs and OME components which ment they could recommend a custom OME lift system that would suit my specific needs. Second they have outstanding customer support and third they were reasonably priced.

DPG Off Road 3.5” HD Ultimate XJ Old Man Emu Hybrid Kit
  • OME Sport Shocks & Coil Springs
  • OME Hybrid or Dual Rate Leaf Springs ( OME HD pack with OME variable spring rate add a leaf)
  • JKS Quicker Disconnects
  • DPG Swaybar Disco Cables
  • JKS Adj. Trackbar
  • DPG Front Extended Bumpstops
  • Leaf Spring Bushings
  • New DPG HD U-Bolt Kit

Fat Bob’s Off Road Lower Control Arms

Tires:
31x10.5x15 BFGoodrich Mud Terrain km 2 on Cragar soft 8 wheels. I pulled these off my 97 XJ which I totaled after hydro locking it trying to cross the Nile.

I have all the hardware in except the control arms, I plan on installing as soon as I get them in. More to come…

LIFT UPDATE-

Alright gents I have more to add to my resume, got the front lift installed today (OME 1.75"/2" coils, 1.75" coil spacer, 2" extended bump stops, OME shocks, Fat Bobs lower control arms and JKS track bar) I still have to install the JKS sway bar discos. I was in the shop for about 4.5 hours, 3.5-4 hours if you don't count the breaks and set up. I have decided to just go prerunner style and wont be installing the 3.5" OME leaf packs... haha JK. I was running out of time in the shop I will finish up the rear in a couple of days. Waiting on the rear lift before I get an alignment, so fare very pleased with the front lift, once it settles a bit it should be sitting at a perfect height for me.

I will post pics in a minute as soon as I can figure it out, FLOWPRO thanks for the tip.

I still haven't installed the OME leaf pack in my new ride but I had OME HD leafs on my old XJ and loved them!

Help!!!

After the install there was a noticeable vibe coming from the front. The vibe gets worse is 4WD High, I have not had an alignment yet but I am almost positive its drive line related. Its is definitely isolated to the front because I have not installed the new leaf pack yet, prerunner style. Will a T-Case drop or new U-Joints help?

Have you tried to remove the front driveshaft and see if it goes away?

Rollin N Mud I haven't removed the frond DS but good suggestion. I will be putting the new leaf pack on tomorrow night and might drop the T-Case 1" if I can find some 1"x2" steal tubing laying around. I am anticipating drive line vibes from the rear so it might be hard to pin point the problem when the rear gets lifted.
