BluJay's HankyPanky Build

Hey All,

I wanted to record my build from beginning to end. Since I just bought the truck less than a month ago. Now is perfect time to start.

So far all I have added is locking gas cap, floor mats and new front and rear wipers. Topped off all the fluids and bought a sunshade lol.

The back door was un-open-able when I got it and had a "taillight open" light on the dash. I removed the tailgate panel from the inside and manually popped the lid. The clip had fallen off the lock; put it back on and was able to open and close. Then went to work on the bracket. Had to replace a few bolts and bend the sensor a little. Voila light off and tailgate locks.

After a good wash and detail inside she's ready for phase one.

Chapter 1 MOD 1

So fist thing is I needed to get rid of the old cluster, it has only warning signs and no tachometer!

http://s18.postimage.org/rjfje1suh/B...B_61_g_0_1.jpg

I replaced it with a used cluster from a 98' jeep Cherokee Sport; perfect match.

Since before I did not have all these gauges when I test fitted it. The washer fluid light was permanently on due to a broken sensor in the reservoir. Instead of replacing the sensor I pulled the light and placed it in another spot to hold it for now.

So before putting it in; I decided to mod the inside lights blue. I had just enough to do the shifter and 4x4. (some modification)
Will need a few more LED's to finish the A/C then get a blue deck to top it all off... After all I am bluJay ya know.. lol

Now I have oil pressure, battery voltage, h20 temp and various other warning and 4x4 lights! Their in blue to boot!

The lights aren't too bright and are very attractive. Your eyes are drawn to them almost too much.

Honestly I got the cluster off of ebay for $60.

The bulbs come from there also for $30.

They send you a kit of 6 bright LED in any color you want.

4 for dash and 2 extras. Its easy to replace the dash; once you pull it off you twist the bulbs out of the sockets then I used a pair of pliers to gently pull the bulbs out of the housing and replaced them with the LED. (perefect fit.)

For the shifter's I had to modify the bulbs, make the connects stick out sideways and create a loop. (they are too small) If they ever come loose I'll add some random copper loops and conductivity gel.

Btw they are polar sensitive so test them as you install.

Chapter 1 MOD 2

Its been a while; been busy with work and life. Finally got a chance to finish the dash mod converting the hvac and rear wiper to blue LED's. The whole dash is finished now. I just need to get a blue deck.

The dash took: (Courtsey of ThatPurpleXJ)
5-neowedge t5 for the gauge cluster
2-194s for the 4wd/tranny (must have a diameter less then 10mm
2-3 neowedge t4 for the defroster, rear wiper and fog light if applicable
2-neowedge t4 for hvac

It was an easy conversion, use a tiny Flathead to turn the bulbs. Replace and test. They are polarized so you need to check before closing up.

It may feel like you cant get behind it but it's just taped down and can be dent a little.

Next up I think will be the deck then suspension. :gunsmilie:

Chapter 1 MOD 3

Got a Steal on some Goodyear Wrangler A/T $500 for the set.

Not much of an intense tread but took it out last weekend and never came out of 2wd. Mud cakes up quick but gravel clears it quick. They are satisfactory for now until I lift it about 3 inches I think and shoot for 32's.

I think I might sandblast the rims and paint them the same white paint as the body.

im sorry man but you paid wayy to much for those tires.

those things wear out in maybe 2 years and here they're at max $75 each new.

I had a set on my last jeep (stocker) I was quite disappointed.

I've had them for a few weeks now and I enjoy the ride. Just what I need for my street rims.

2 years is more then enough. I plan to have bfg at ta ko's on it after the lift. They are my most preferred set.

For the 235/75/15, they about $85/ea online. Consider balance, install, stems, aliment and hazard. I feel It was more then fair.
