Found some snowflake wheels on KSL (local classifieds)!

The clear coat is lightly cracking in some places, but no big dings or curb rash! Got all 4 for a song today. And they even have the center caps, too.

They're pretty nice as is, almost makes me want to not paint the recessed areas gold, but might be good to prep and paint and recoat regardless ... Ah, decisions.

My friend Walt came over and we got this sucker out of the White Knight tonight.

We had to shim the crap out of the upper bolts, because I forgot how long (well, short) the mounting plate tubes were.

Not pictured were the new bellhousing bolts i picked up. I never thought much of them before, but Ace Hardware had stepped up their game. Super friendly and they had the exact part number replacement bolts. Not even Fastenal had these...

Now i can start cleaning it up and getting it ready for transplant.

I'm going to also source a few vacuum connectors, but that's peanuts.

Now I've got to pull the core engine out of Black Bertram: Saturday's goal.

This is going to my buddy Walt, who drove all the way up with me to get the White Knight. I seriously can't believe how clean this jeep was.

strategic retreat

After a whole day of getting everything ready, i had to make a strategic retreat...

The e-socket heads broke despite my best efforts. My course of action will be to relive the whole drivetrain, carefully grind of the bolt heads if I can't get a better angle and get them off. I want to save the core. $50 was the best offer so far for the block and head. I don't see any holes in the block, so i don't want to just junk the engine.

Back in Black

Finally got off my arse and did something on the Jeep. It also helped that we've had abnormally warm weather here in central Utah.

Got the power train out completely. Only had to use the torch once ;)

The best news was that the bolt heads were still salvageable. The sockets I have are tapered/beveled so much they don't grip, hence the earlier failure.

A ratcheting E12 wrench and a cheater pipe made short work of it all. No grinding necessary.

Gonna prep the engine for install this weekend, get the front pipe de-pinched, new muffler installed, and pray for sunshine.

Engine Prep and Install

Got the last of the engine prep work done this week:

Water pump, thermostat, valve cover, alternator, flexplate, etc.

Saturday, today, I took a trip to the pick 'n pull to get a few things: fan pulley, starter.

The best part though was my buddy Walt came over and WE GOT THE ENGINE IN! :head:

It's a bit of a mess, but we were both running out of time for the day. That man is a saint.

SO CLOSE. I can almost taste it.

Pending any mishaps, I've got a trade lined up for some gold teardrop wheels! I think he wants me to pay for mounting/balancing of his old tires, but whatever.

Got some designs laid down for Bertram, Thinking something's not there yet— I know the poll on the thread is for different designs, but I don't know… I'll see how I feel as I go along.

I like #2. Not a fan of gold but I think for what your doing it will look good.

Funny story: my most hated trim package on an SUV was the 3rd gen 4Runner Limited—EVERYTHING IS GOLD—package. It was that gold-beige exterior and bright gold badges, beige leather interior and faux wood…

I also owned an Epiphone Sheraton II which was "natural" with gold hardware and hated how it looked as well—maybe it's just Gold on Gold I hate…

Bertram's interior is Grenoble Cloth in saddle with the two-tone, while the exterior is monotone black:

so I figure there's enough contrast to make it Black & Gold and work well enough. I think 4wd4ever suggested I paint it white and call it white willy! tempting, but I don't want to "do it right" by tearin up the interior to get all the black areas white again.

Basslicks suggested I reverse out the 4x4 which I like a bit better:

The reverse out the 4x4 looks cool too honestly. Hey its not me that has to like it and now that I seen the interior I can see why. It will look really nice no matter what I'm sure.

5-Speed 04-13-2018 11:58 AM

May I make a suggestion? Not sure how it will look but I am putting it out there! Just know, some of the ideas I come up with in my head turn out horrible when I see them on paper. Haha

Keep the 4x4 reversed cause that does look better but move it up and a bit to the right. Almost like the factory location. Then take "Cherokee" and slide it to the left, right under the 4x4.

something like that?

5-Speed 04-13-2018 02:06 PM

Ya! That is the general idea I had. Maybe mess around with the size and location of the 4x4 but I like it.
