Before putting on lift

Hey guys I'm about to add a 3" lift into my xj but my tire is making a ticking sound. Now I'm not sure what it is a million things are going through my head with it.

Now I don't know what it is so ill call it a joint. You can see in the middle the joint is facing towards the front whereas the joint on the right tire is facing down

Is this what is causing the ticking?
Is it dangerous?
And can I add a lift with that and is it safe.

Sorry I just do not know what to do

if its the same problem i had, it would be the u joint. it is a fairly easy fix. if i were you, i would do it while i did the lift

Thanks a million. Now is it dangerous to drive with it like that for awhile? Or should it be fixed right away

I wouldnt say its dangerous but it could be costly if it lets go. Reach under and grab the shaft(part that isnt on the tire side of it) and yank on it. if it has any play in that joint then its due for replacement. And by due I mean well over due.
