Basic XJ questions

I currently have a 99 Jeep Wrangler with a 3 inch lift, 33 inch boggers and some aftermarket bumpers and what not. My brother and I are looking for an XJ and we need a little bit of help. First off, we want to lift it at least 6 inches and get some fairly big tires under there. What tire size would be the best for a 6 or maybe even an 8 inch lift? I also don't want to dump a ton of money into this machine, so I have considered buying a used that is lifted. This could be a bad move since the previous owner probably beat the **** out of it. Would it be a good idea at all to buy a used-lifted cherokee? If I dont buy a lifted one, I want to install a 6-8 inch lift, big tires and lockers for sure, but then that means I need new axels. I have heard that those Ford 9 bolt(or whatever is in the Ford Explorer) are excellant swaps for the Dana 35 or chrysler models. Couls someone just kind of point me in the right direction and tell me how much my idea would roughly cost, buy stock or lifted cherokee, and what would be a budget saver move in this position.
Thanks
