The balanced build thread.
For the past 8 months I have been snooping around the boards not posting much because everything I have wanted to know I found with the search bar. Now however it is time to start the build. The objective is to build a rig sensible enough to drive across the country, or to work every day. Yet Extreme enough to tackle most of the trails west of the Mississippi.
What I am starting with: 01 Limited, yep all the comforts of home and only 100,000 miles on the clock.
you can see a little rock rash
What Is on order:
Zone 3in lift with full rear spring pack
TJ fender flairs: http://www.ebay.com/itm/JEEP-XJ-Cher...ht_4133wt_1056
What I am planing on ordering in the next 3 days:
Tread wright 33x11.50 A/T. https://www.treadwright.com/p-53-285...den-a-t-d.aspx
Short term plans:
Sliders
Sway bar disconnects
spartan drop in locker
re gear
Mid term
steering upgrade
front E locker
Unibody stiffeners
Long term
High clearance bumpers
Winch
Long arms.
I may have been playing with jeeps for a while but this is my first ground up build so feel free to drop off some advice.

I know some people will say try and get the long arms now instead of short arms first, cheaper in the long run and all that...

So I spent Sat, and Sunday getting her lifted. I would say It took 12 hrs of work. the front went together really nice on Sat, with only some minor difficulty getting the LCAs bolted back to the axial. but she looked really funny driving her home with just the front lifted.
The back came apart super easy. Even the famed shock bolts came right out (I had spent the past few days spraying them with a miraculous penetrating oil in an orange can)
However when it came time to put the new springs in
the extra arch meant that we had to compress them inorder to get everything to line up. compressing them with the jack torked everything out and made it almost imposble to line up the uper shackel mount. but after two and a half hrs of banging, prying, and wiggeling we got everything bolted down.
Man I cant wate to get the fenders trimed and the 33s on her

The next step was the Tires but the ones I wanted (33") would not fit so it was time for a littel fender trimming
At first I just trimmed up the fronts in order to get it home from the shop on time.
After Pie cutting the rears it was time to take her out and see what she had...

The maiden voyage,
I need to go back in and Trim some more up front as the Zone kit allows for a lot more up-travel then I thought, add some bump stops and I should be able to avoid cutting my tires next time out. Next step SYE, Rock sliders, and reshaping, putting flairs on my fenders.....stay tuned.
