Yea man got it-Thanks! I am thinking I would like to take that bumper off your hands still if that's cool. I get two months paid leave from August to September... I'm planning to travel a bunch so I am thinking I could arrange my plans to stay around long enough in Colorado to pick it up after cofest assuming you don't break while there .

Unfortunately I do not think I am gonna be able to make it anymore. I have this dang astro class I am finishing up that I thought was finished Monday, but it turns out I don't finish it until Thurs, then I have my grad ceremony on Friday so I am kind of out of luck. Have fun though man I wish I could make it up there.

I am thinking of running Spring Creek saturday with a bunch of frontrange4x4 guys though if you are looking for some wheeling this weekend we are meeting at 9:30am at the burger king in Downieville.

I went wheeling yesterday at spring creek. Pretty fun trail overall. We had 1 guy break his driveshaft and another guy with a flat tire, but I got out without a scratch luckily.

Here is a video of me up the first wall obstacle.

And some pictures:

Another pretty sweet cherokee:

Pretty sweet buggy that came with us:

Also I have some updates on everything else on the jeep:

I went to replace the U-joints today on the axle shafts with some 760's u-joints and full circle c-clips due to hearing a jingling noise the whole run yesterday that was coming from the passenger side wheel and thinking I had a bad u-joint. I took off the wheel and luckily it only turned out to be the axle nut retainer coming off and jingling around in the wheel center cap. this thing->

I decided to replace the passenger side axle shaft u-joint anyways since I was still running the junkyard shaft I put in there from vegas that had a super old u-joint. Well...it turns out the shafts I pulled unfortunately had the old style u-joint sizes, so I couldn't use the newer larger sized 760 u-joints I purchased... so with the shop closing I put everything back together and limped home from the auto shop with no passenger side axle shaft.

1. So now I have to make some decisions. Should I:

A- get a tiny u-joint that the shaft needs and return my 760 joints (save $15)
B- get another larger shaft from the jy and put 760 u joints in it ($25)
C- get chome molly shafts and be done with it($550)

I have some other major items though that I also need to figure out what to do about right now:

2. My transfercase hums at highway speed and I am almost positive it is due to worn planetary gears sooo I could:

a-Buy a tera4low 4:1 front half case and be done with it ($1100)
b-Buy a chevy 241 planetary gears and other parts and use them and end up with at least a stronger case ($300)
c-Buy a junkyard 231 t/c- move my sye onto it along with the new chain ($250)
d-Wait untill mine blows up, and possibly get stranded on a trail or my upcoming trip across country and pay for a tow/fix it ($1500+??)

3. My lower rear quarter panel is very vulnerable and I already smashed it in once so I don't want to worry about it anymore so I could:
-buy chad's bumper if he will sell me the dang thing ($500??)
-have one made custom, but for as long as I will have to wait I think I would rather learn how to weld (not sure how much $ /time that would cost me altogether)

4. I would like to get 35's after those chromo's. I found some great priced beadlocks with almost new 36's but I don't know about the d30 being able to handle those even with chromoly's. I think I have to settle for 35's what do you all think? I mean I will be sitting way lower since I'll lower the pressure to like 5psi with the beadlocks- would that make it better than non-beadlocks? or is it all about the weight of the tires not the height?

5. I just bought a hydro assist setup haha ($300)

Anyways that is what is on my mind. I am glad I'll be graduating soon though and be on leave for 2 months getting lieutenant pay. That is probably the only reason I am not getting rid of this jeep right now with all the time and money its costing me. I am trying to get all of this stuff finished in the next 3 weeks though so its still a lot to sort through.

I may sell that bumper well see

And dude I bet that D30 could handle the 36's if you throw some chromoly's in there and with the truss. I think you would be good to go bro

Thanks for the input guys, I am leaning towards the chromollys since I plan to buy them eventually anyways. Not sure about everything else yet though.

You know you can build your own 6 gear planetary very easily.

Yea that is what I was thinking of doing with the NP241C case. I didn't realize that the jy prices here are so cheap though for tranfercases ($85 without the core at U pull and pay). The ones I checked in San Diego were asking like $200 per transfercase. I think I might go to the jy this weekend and pick up the planetary gears and maybe a wide chain...even though I just threw a new one in recently that was regular width. I just can't get myself to open that case up for the 7th time in a month and not at least upgrade it. I think this is a little more reasonable option than the tera4low.

So here is what I decided on everything:

1. I bought d30 chome molly shafts and will install them this weekend

2. I plan to buy a 6 gear planetary from the chevy 241 and a wide chain and sprockets off a 231C at the Junk yard this weekend hopefully. Turns out cases are pretty cheap out here, plus I will probably just open them up at the jy and take the pieces I need.

3. Gotta talk chad into letting go of the rear bumper because if all going according to plan I will be wheeling the heck out of this thing 12 Aug through 22 Aug at the militaryjeeper's "Camp MJ" event in teluride, grand junction and Moab.

4. I am going to hold off on the 35's due to leaving colorado soon and not wanting to have to deal with selling my tires....well maybe I will change my mind, but we will see.

5. I will be installing my hydro assist this weekend hopefully.

After graduating , my plan is to stick around colorado at least for the beginning of august and get EVERYTHING on my to do list for the XJ completed hopefully in a few days. That includes all of the items above plus #1-21 on the updated list below.

1. Replace UCA axle side bushings with ones I bought
X 2.-DONE- Replace LCA bushings with ones I bought
3. Adjust pinion in front upwards two degrees to get better castor angle
X 4.-DONE- Buy/replace rear leaf spring bushings
X 5. -DONE- Found planetaries were worn and had play need to replace -Install speedo drive gear, new snap rings, 39 tooth speedo gear I ordered and inspect t/c again to get rid of all plastic peices in there and find out which bearing is bad to replace it eventually. Also need to extract and replace outer housing bolt I broke.
6. Change oil with synthetic oil I bought and add the seafoam I bought
X 7. -N/A-Flush/change power steering fluid
X 8. -N/A-loosen steering box 1/8 turn counterclockwise.
9. Fix the sweet dent I have on the rear passenger side corner next to the bumper... maybe its time for a steel rear bumper and tire carrier and tuck and fold the rear quarter pannels...not sure about that with bushwackers though or maybe the jcr style protection

Will do soon/in my spare time:
10. Rear disc brake swap from grand cherokee
X 11. -DONE-Adjust driver door hinge so door closes perfectly
12. Install longer brake lines I bought
13. Get new bolt for spring retainer clip
14. Clean starter motor
15. Get a shop to weld on sway bar tabs, and weld up leaks in exhaust pipe joints
X 16. -Mine are good length- Maybe replace rear 4-5" lift bilstein shocks with 6" lift shocks
X 17. -FIXED-Replace cb since it constantly sounds like the antenna is grounded even though I just replaced the antenna.
18. Get the bolts for and install transfercase skid I picked up at the junkyard
19. Make a custom storage box to hold my sub, and organize all the junk in my car
20. Divorce the air compressor from the tank and mount it all/hard wire everything for OBA
X 21. -ORDERED-Alloy Shafts for D30

Plan to complete up #21 in the first week of August. Everything else I will do later

22. 35" or 36" tires
23. D30 Rock ring
24. Body Stiffeners/plating
25. Replace tranny mount if bad
26. hood vents
27. headlight harness with 10 ga wire
28. Grand cherokee leather seats
29. Replace crappy radio and blown speakers

Maybe do/ would like to do eventually:
30. Steering and track bar brace
31. Swaylock swaybars
32. -Not worth it-Teralow 4:1 Kit or Atlas case
33. -Doing- Hydro assist
34. Bumpers
35. Tube doors
36. Interior Roll Cage
37. Winch

After doing work on my XJ, I will either stay around until Camp MJ on the 12th to wheel for 10 days straight, or if I can't make that work, head to San Diego. I am gonna miss all you out here in Colorodo!
