Default The Abominable XJ

Ok so I've been pestering you guys on here for the last month figured it was time to show you why. This is The Abominable XJ...by no means a Humble Bumble. 2001 XJ Sport work tank, picked her up sept 08 with 163k now just rounding the corner to 197k. Did some "technical" deer climbing oct 09 so plz excuse the cheapo plastic header panel and 89 cherokee wheels... Drove it for work on construction sites and various other off roading such as obtaining soil log samples, construction and evironmental testing and protection supervision until the economy took its toll. So now I have some time and enough liquid funding to put her up and fix it right.

Well I have assembled most of the parts I need for the lift. New set of ZJ coils , O.M.E. 2" HD rear leaf packs, 4-Skyjacker 7000Hydros, new Bushings and Sway bar links as well.Just waiting on my 3/4" spacers and to find some U bolts I was so intelligent not to order when I got the springs "doh!"....So hopefully by Sunday Ill be a little closer to the air up there, But with my luck more like next week...

Default Thanx for the support

Ok just got back and scrubbed clean enough to touch the keyboard.Planning on some 30x9.5x15 nothing crazy moderately aggressive...my buddy is trying to talk me into some kelly trail mark max..suggestions welcome. i like the savero m/ts on my dad silverado but way to agressive for the amount of road time i put on this, was thinking of some silent armors but there a lil pricey. for now i have set of 225/75/15 techno ultra tractions on the back(nice tires for a retread 5k so far and barely any tread lost) and some liberator 215/75/15 on the 89 cherokee wheels in front. i dont mind the liberators i had four 225s on there for 30k and they handled mud and snow well till some nails took out the back 2 and then the deer climbing claimed the others. didnt get much done today tracked down some u bolts that should work they fit the axle and plate just hoping they are long enough so i dont have to wait and order them. then i put the bushings in the rear springs..i love my impact made a modified haynes manual bushings driver greased the snot out of them and while my dad was spinning the impact i got them set with a dead soft mallet then plop in they went took like 20 mins to figure it out on the first bushing then 10 minutes to do the other three..just dont go hog wild with the impact it will suck it right out the other side..praise to the jeep gods i only broke the rear sway bar bolt today.so i soaked everything in pb and put it back together so i could go home.wish the garage wasn't an hour away

after three days of broken and stripped everything here she is lift came to 2" front and a surprising 3" in the back....drives very nice aside from the one inch tilt and the horrid alignment.has the dreaded rear shaft vibe....need to get the rear to settle down a half inch or so and see if that helps if not ill level the front and do a tcase drop or try to have it shimmed. has a little bit of the wobble but nothing intolerable.just need to fine tune everything so far after 200 miles it rides like a dream...the rear is very STIFF but not unpleasant and the front feels way better than stock.even with the supposed lousy 7000hydros i cheaped out on. guess time will tell on my decision. any suggestions on what to do about my tilt? would like to get it down some in the back...but if i have to will add another set of spacers to the front to level it out

Do you think the lift variation is due to different sized tires on the front and back? You need the same size tires. Just my 2 cents. Good lookin' Jeep.

well im sure some of it is from tire variations..but the center of hub to fender height is not going to change with a different tire size. if i understand it right that is the distance from the axle to the body so the suspension would be the only variable .....that is where i am getting my tilt...im looking for a used set of 225 snows for the front to see if it helps (trying to save for big meats) .

some randoms pictures i found of the front axle tube and differental also a few during the lift process plus a before shot so you can really see the difference...i have settled out 1" in the back since these pics were taken which i was very surprised never seen a spring settle that much...so overall i got 2" in the front and 2.5" in the rear. my drive shaft vibe was a loose yoke cap bolt. and alignment is on the way soon as i find some tires...having some trouble finding a pair of decent 225s for the front from the jy to run til summertime.

While we were tooling around in the garage today my friend stumbled onto this interesting looking piece of metal. I was surprised thats its actually rather heavy gauge steel tubing. I think it will brush guard up nicely..fits perfectly between the headlights. What you guys think any suggestions?
