99' XJ; A slow and steady NW build.
This will be a slow and steady build of my DD. I am currently in college and hold down a job as well, so it's most important to me to get through college in order to have a Career that will allow me to spend freely on good quality parts for my XJ. So without further a do, this is what I started with. I buy everything on my own and try and do everything on my own (or with a fellow Jeeper)
Jeep Stats: 1999 Jeep Cherokee SE Dummy Gauges Dana 30 Chrysler 8.25 NP-231 T-Case AW4 Transmission http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/x...download-5.jpg Picked up my XJ in McMinnville, OR. Only had 95,xxx miles. These are initial shots of when I first brought my Jeep home: http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/x...P9221856-1.jpg http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/x...P9221858-1.jpg http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/x...P9221859-1.jpg http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/x...P9221860-1.jpg http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/x...P9221853-1.jpg Needless to say, it's very clean. I started taking care of maintenance such as replacing the Idler Pulley, Serpentine Belt, Alternator, and oil change. |
So when I first purchased the Jeep, I initially hated the stock wheels so I started scouring Craigslist. Soon enough, I found 4 Factory Jeep Ravine Wheels (15x8 5x4.5) for $125. Cruised on up to Newberg, OR and picked them up from a fellow Jeeper.
http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/x...H/P9241852.jpg I snapped a pictured down at local park: http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/x...nCOH/001-1.jpg I now began looking to replace my tires because when I first bought my Jeep it had 3 Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armors and I think like a no-name knockoff. Again Craigslist came through for me and I found a pair of LT235/75/15 BFG T/A KOs for a price of $350. These tires had less than 500 miles on them so I just couldn't pass it up. http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/x...-BFGcement.jpg Also got around to doing an tune-up that consisted of quality OEM Mopar products: http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/x...pkitedited.jpg And a build sheet I got from Jeep: According to our records, your 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport was equipped from the factory with the following: Sales Code Description *B6 Vinyl High-Back Bucket Seats -AZ Agate AHT Trailer Tow Group AJP Power Convenience Group APAS Monotone Paint ARUP SE Decor Group AWS Smoker's Group A20P 4.0L Engine(ERH)/4Sp Auto Trans(DGS BASS 124 Amp Alternator BCDS 500 Amp Maintenance Free Battery BGAS Power Front Disc/Rear Drum Brakes CABP Bucket Seats CBWP Highline Door Trim Panel CDBS Reclining Front Seats CFMS Rear Folding Seat CGGS Traveling Inboard Seat Belt Buckle CGWS Next Generation Front Air Bags** CKAS Carpets - Floor and Cargo Area CKNS Cargo Compartment Carpet CKTS Cargo Tie Down Loops CKXS Plastic Liftgate Trim Panel CSRS Passenger Assist Handles CSSS Illuminated Rear Assist Handles CUFS Full Length Floor Console CUXP Front & Rear Ash Trays DGB All 4-Speed Automatic Transmissions DGSS 4-Speed Automatic AW4 Transmission DHAP Lock-Up Torque Converter DHNS Command-Trac Part Time 4WD System DHSP Floor Mount Automatic Shift Lever DJHS Dana M30/181MM Front Axle DMDP 3.55 Rear Axle Ratio DRAS Corporate 8.25 Rear Axle EAAC All Engines ERH 4.0L I6 Power Tech Engine GBBS Tinted Windshield Glass GCBS Front Door Tinted Glass GEDS Tinted Rr Drs/Qtr/Liftgate Glass GFAS Rear Window Defroster GNAS Rear View Day/Night Mirror GTZP Manual Remote Mirrors GVBC All Vehicles W/Power Mirrors HAAP Air Conditioning HGDS Deluxe Insulation Group JAZP Analog Instrument Cluster JBFP Instrument Panel Black Bezel JCDS 100 MPH Primary Speedometer JHAS Var Intermittent Windshield Wipers JHBP Rear Window Wiper/Washer JJAP Cigar Lighter JJBS Dual Note Electric Horns JJJS 12V Auxiliary Power Outlet JPAP Power Windows JPBP Power Locks KDPS STRIPE/BADGE/MOLDING COLOR KGPS STRIPE/BADGE/MOLDING/COLOR KRPS STRIPE/BADGE/MOLDING COLOR KTPS STRIPE/BADGE/MOLDING/COLOR KYPP STRIPE/BADGE/MOLDING/COLOR K3ZS STRIPE/BADGE/MOLDING/COLOR LAJS Headlamps On Warning Chimes LCKS Front Dome Lamp LMAS Halogen Headlamps LPSS CHMSL Lamp MBJP Black Front Bumper MBKP Black Front Bumper End Caps MBNP Black Rear Bumper MBSP Black Rear Bumper End Caps MCAS Front Bumper Guards MDA Front License Plate Bracket MFAP Black Headlamp Bezels MFFP Black Grille MHAS Black Windshield Moldings MMCS Upper Door Frame Moldings MMGS Belt Moldings MMKS Body Color Drip Trough Molding MNAS Black Door Handles MNJP Black License Plate Brow MUKS MOPAR Chrome Bodyside Molding NAA Federal Emissions NBKS EVAP Control System NFAS 20 Gallon Fuel Tank NHBP Auxiliary Transmission Oil Cooler NHM Speed Control NMCP Heavy Duty Engine Cooling PW1 Stone White Clear Coat QW1S Stone White C/C RAAC All Radio Equipped Vehicles RALP AM/FM Radio RCBP 2 Speakers RDDP Fixed Long Mast Antenna SBAS Power Rack and Pinion Steering SCG Leather Wrapped Steering Wheel SDAS Normal Duty Suspension SHAS Front Stabilizer Bar SHCS Front and Rear Stabilizer Bars SUA Tilt Steering Column TBB Full Size Spare Tire TBLS Inside Mounted Spare Tire TM6P P215/75R15 BSW Wrangler AP Tires TZAP Goodyear Brand Tires WJDP 15X7.0 Styled Steel Wheels WKBP Matching Spare Wheel WLYC All Steel Wheels XCYS Delete Remote Start System XJFS Tethered Fuel Filler Cap XPFS Protective Coating and Remover YAAS Build To U.S. Mkt. Snapped a few photos with the new BFGs:
http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/x...turnedoppo.jpg http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/x...OH/003-1-1.jpg Did some cleaning because I got bored: http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/x.../Oldscrews.jpg New http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/x.../NewScrews.jpg Scored a set of Quadratec Front Floor Mats: http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/x...H/P1080134.jpg http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/x...H/P1080135.jpg These things are very deep and they really couldn't fit any better. If you are in the market for floor mats, I would definitely be suggest picking up a pair of these. Awesome product. *And just for anyone following me... http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/x...H/P1080136.jpg |
I now decided to dive into doing more maintenance so I figured I would change my Transmission & Differential Oil. Welp, Solid was running a killer deal on their Differential cover so I pulled the trigger on a Dana 30 & Chrysler 8.25 covers. I also suggest buying LubeLockers as well if your changing your Differential Covers.

Snap a few pics as well... I love my Jeep http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/x...DSC02680-1.jpg http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/x...H/DSC02677.jpg |
FINALLY got around to installing my Solid Differential Covers...
Dana 30 & Chrysler 8.25 Solid Differential Covers: http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/x..._4394232_n.jpg http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/x..._2466496_n.jpg Almost as soon as they went on I started getting a gnarly grinding sound when I would go over the slightest bump. The track-bar would rub up against the Solid Differential cover. Got real annoying so I decided to grind away: http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/x...622_112319.jpg I touched up the paint as well. Picked up C4x4 Front Tow Hook Brackets & Hooks. I already have a rear recovery point with a Warn 2" Receiver Shackle. http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/x...613_145225.jpg |
Cleanest looking xj i have seen in a long time! you have a great slate to start your build with! i have almost the exact jeep as you! bought mine last year. a white 99 SE 4x4 like yours but i do not have power windows or locks. just power mirrors. and mine is the 5 speed manual. If you want to get the tachometer and get rid of the dummy gauges you can buy a full gauge cluster off eBay or something. i found one for $40 and just installed it today and it was the easiest install ever!

Welp, luck has finally struck. I was in attendance at the 2nd annual "Don't Fear the Jeeper" event presented by Dick Hannah, and happen to put 12 doll-hairs worth of raffle ticket into the Bushwacker prize box. My number was called for a sweet pair of Bushwacker Flat Fender Flares for a 2-Door JK. I was so stoked to find I had won! I want to say thanks to Don't Fear the Jeeper for putting on an awesome event, as well Bushwacker.
http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/x...per-Winner.jpg Well the fun doesn't stop there because I've been slowly saving towards a good quality lift, and with the addition of winning those bushwacker (which I plan on re-selling) I can now pull the trigger on some of the best suspension components out there. Part#: ARB8402 http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/x...8402MyLift.jpg All Medium-Duty suspension components, as well as an OME Steering Stabilizer. I order from 4WD.com mainly because I got 5% off my suspension as well as free shipping! So, out the door I payed $951 for a complete OME Suspension, OME Steering Stabilizer. A deal I couldn't really passed up or else I would've sent my business towards JeepinOutfitters or DPGOffroad. OME Lift will delivered Tuesday so i'll be constantly spraying PB Blaster on suspension bolts and hopefully have it knocked out here soon. So pumped!. I now officially name my build as "Slowly going down under", mainly because I aim to use ARB Products only. |
OME Kit should be in tomorrow (8/9/11).
In the meantime, here are some more pictures from DFTJ 2: http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/x...H/GOPR0494.jpg http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/x...H/GOPR0510.jpg http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/x...H/GOPR0509.jpg |
Okay so we finally got the OME lift done. All in all, it took us about 8 hours. Nikson did a lot of the work so a lot of credit goes to him, but I also wrenched on it and learned a lot of the suspension and simplicity of wrenching itself. The only thing we got hung up on was the passenger rear shock bolts & The T-Case drop. For the passenger rear shock bolts we had to drill and tap. For the T-Case drop we did the double nut trick in order to get the bolt out. All I really have to do now is get an alignment and i'm good to go! Night and Days difference with the new OME Suspension. I luckily got no vibes (T-Case drop) so looks like i'm good to go! Picture time:

Big thanks to Nikson again! |
