Decided to do rocksliders now while I’m replacing the fenders. Using 2x8x64” 3/16 thick tube. One fender came in the mail today and is all crunched up! Hopefully the eBay seller is able to fix that easily.

New fenders came in and are good to go. Now I can chop em up and paint them. Got some rough country fender armor as well. Now I can get on with the build. Next stop paint shop for some color matched ivory white.

It’s a decent amount of prep work to do this rock slider mod. Longview pic for those who want to see how much the 2x8 sticks out. About the same width as the tires. Angle iron is tacked in. Need to weld it and weld in the 2x8. Then passenger side. Also got the new fenders trimmed, drilled for fenders armor and mocked up to check fitment. They are ready for paint.

Had to take a 6 week break from the jeep and spent that time remodeling kitchen and dining room. Today I painted the new front fenders and sprayed the front grill. I’ll have to finish the rocksliders before I get to install them. I mocked one up to see the color match and it came out perfect.

Not exactly a dust-free environment. Looks great in photos, but that doesn't say much. What did you paint with - gun or rattle-can?

It looks as I intended.

I'm pretty interested in repainting a few pieces on my XJ. Does this paint need to be baked after application? Did you follow the air line humidity recommendations?

For the products that I used personally Primer/base/clearcoat flash time between coat was about 15 minutes and 25 in between primer to base, base to clearcoat. That was using a slow reducer and painting from 7:30 am to 10:30am. Temp ranged from 70-85 degrees in that time frame. Once the final coat of clear was sprayed it took about 2 hours to dry. Try not to touch it until the next day though.

Driverside rockslider was fully welded in today. Also got the lower fender mounting tab welded in. Passenger side is next.

Thanks! My zoom function on my phone camera is broken unfortunately so it’s hard to get good pictures. I’m working on the rear quarters right now. Very thin stuff
