99 sport finally coming together

a little over a month ago i purchased my 3rd jeep cherokee, its a 1999 cherokee sport 2dr straight 6 and 2wd with 160,000 miles on it.
i planned on doing the 4wd swap and some other stuff using my old 98 for parts, https://www.cherokeeforum.com/member...ee/30144-a.jpghttps://www.cherokeeforum.com/member...ee/30147-a.jpg

looks nice and clean.

i love those rims.

the first week or two i was swapping out little stuff, and fixing stuff, nothing major. had to replace header panel https://www.cherokeeforum.com/member...way-better.jpggot that painted and replaced pretty quickly, headlights were next with bi-xenon 8000k HIDshttps://www.cherokeeforum.com/member...002101749a.jpgthen came the tranny and tcase swap, we got it knocked out in 2 days
that was about it for a few weeks

once i started getting some ordered parts in. like bumpstops and adjustable track bar i started moving forward againhttps://www.cherokeeforum.com/member...1012101801.jpgold axle out of 98
https://www.cherokeeforum.com/member...1018102137.jpgnew extended bumpstops
https://www.cherokeeforum.com/member...1020101525.jpgold axle after i replaced all tie rod ends and while waiting the 2 weeks for everything to come in, i decided to paint it.
https://www.cherokeeforum.com/member...ee/32817-a.jpgstarted the swap for front axle, wasnt to bad getting the 2wd hunk of metal disconnected and dropped out
https://www.cherokeeforum.com/member...ee/32818-a.jpgdisconnecting from jeep wasnt the hard part. it was moving this thing with just me,floor jack with good rollars helped alot
https://www.cherokeeforum.com/member...ee/32819-a.jpgfell off a few times but i called in the help of another set of hands to line it up.
https://www.cherokeeforum.com/member...ee/32820-a.jpgafter we got it all lined up with the help of a couple weak ratchet straps
https://www.cherokeeforum.com/member...ee/32822-a.jpggot her back on wheels finally
https://www.cherokeeforum.com/member...ee/32823-a.jpg
go to start the heep and bam, key broke off in the ignition. went to dealer next morning and they cut me a nice shiny one
https://www.cherokeeforum.com/member...ee/32828-a.jpgfinished product, during all this i had a tps sensor go out, a fuel injector and a really bad short in my wiring harness. i think it went pretty well
https://www.cherokeeforum.com/member...ee/32827-a.jpg
https://www.cherokeeforum.com/member...ee/32826-a.jpg
and it may not have an 8 inch lift or 40s, but my goal was to have a nice clean xj that was pretty capable but still very dependable, i think i succeeded. its got a 3 inch in front with 2 inch in back for now

well it wasnt easy at all but it was so worth it, and since i used the 4wd out of my previous jeep i knew it hadnt been completly ragged out. and besides the motor theres really nothing you can rag on in a 2wd that i didnt replace. and i probably would of spent alot less money if i had just done the swap and not done so many little things

peppers xj 10-29-2010 07:34 PM

looks good man good luck with the swap im doing the same to mine

peppers xj 10-29-2010 07:37 PM

well look out for top 2 bolts on tranny, i was suoer unlucky because the top 2 bolts on the 2wd and 4wd tranny stripped when we were taking them out, some stupid head they put on just those 2 is ridiculous, had to cut them off, and your wiring for speed sensor i think it is will be to short to connect to tcase, but easy splice.

im gonna sa no, but you would have to have alot of patience and probably have to get alot of the weight off the coils to do it, but im sure theres someone out there thats done it, i had my axle dropped out completly when i added them

Having onwed a four door and a two door. Have you noticed if the two doors chassis flexes more than the four? Nice rig, definately the right way to go with the build.

bluedragon436 10-31-2010 12:34 PM

I would think that the 2dr. would just have the issue of being a smaller wheel base over the 4dr., other than that from what I have read online they seem to flex pretty close to the same. Nice looking rig you got there, and should def. serve you for a while.

the wheelbase is the exact same on 2 and 4 dr, thats why i was able to swap everything over from 4dr, even driveshafts are the same length, just the 2 dr has the huge side window and a good 6 inches in length on the doors to make up for not having 4drs.but the 2 drs do look alot shorter
